Backlot Tour?

I used to love the Backlot Tour (prior to losing Residenial Street - THE GOLDEN GIRLS HOUSE :dazzle: "I'll get the bowls and spoons", lol). Anyway, when they closed that down for that CARS show - the Backlot Tour got BORING. And now with the updated FAKE soundtrack with 2 women talking - it has gotten even worse! What does everyone else think of the tour? Am I just missing the old format with the CM actually making the ride fun or am I crazy?

You are not crazy.
The backlot tour is very boring. There is nothing to see anymore. They need to add a soundstage a la Universal's Earthquake or King Kong.

No, IMO It's truly time to decommission Cat Can and retire the "backlot" tour - for that matter, the entire former backlot, and expand theme park operations into the entire area. The pre-recordings, strangely, did take away from what little was left of the experience.

Dont worry they wont be around much longer the one rumor of late that I put a huge amount of stock in is that the whole area back there will be integrated into Pixar Studios.

Backlot Tour will become Radiator springs Cars attraction.
Lights Motors Action will hava a cars theme soon enough.
Honey I Shrunk PG: will be redone with A Bugs Life Theme

These are all rumored but of all the rumors out there I give these the most potential of happening.

There's still a good bit more room beyond just those areas, though. There is a lot of space behind TSMM and Animation that's there still more room to do more with- who knows, maybe more than just Pixar Place - conceivably the Animation courtyard could be expanded into a larger are a back there too.

Yes I will take an Incredibles ride and the Animation Restaurant from the cruise lines!

I just got back from my Disney trip with a friend who had not been before. So naturally I did the Backlot tour because that is what she wanted to do. I have not done it since LMA moved in, actually, I thought the whole ride had closed... anyway, I agree that it needs an update or something. The beginning with the water stunts is still amusing, but as for the rest of the tour, the only point of going on is to see the pirate props =)

The ride through the studio is interesting - but how much more interesting is it to see the CMs working on Disney costumes? To me, the whole ride needs to be shut down. I know a lot of people want a retheme to Ellens Energy Adventure - I actually like the show (show because the ride is only minutes of the 45 minutes, lol). Ellen makes it interesting. Though, it could use an update as well. But the whole Backlot Tour is TERRIBLE. Maybe Big Whigs are keeping it funded.

IMO I would have rather had the backlot tour stay the way it was and LMA never even built. It was cool the first time, but its all the same every time you see it, even the trivia that is supposed to amuse you before the show. I really liked the Backlot tour when you walked through the Jim Henson Creature shop and the set of Home Improvement. Also seeing all of the props in the boneyard was cool, i mean when it included the Dip truck from Who Framed Roger Rabbit, among other cool stuff. There is cool stuff to see in warehouse that you walk through to get to the trams, but its not worth my time anymore. Either make it a real tour, or tear the whole thing out and make good use of the space! I'd would rather see the former though.

It is too bad that it got to the point its at. I love the idea of the backlot tours, there are so many opportunities to revamp the ride when it comes to themeing and what not. I think (being a huge pirates fan) they could incorporate some of the movies into the ride (similar to the king kong idea) I would hate to see it go, but they really need to do something to it.

I think I am one of the only people who still like the Backlot Tour but I love that idea. My youngest daughter loves cars and would be super excited if this comes true.

I might as well be the one person content as well with the way the Backlot Tour is. However, it needs something else. Something firmer.
Perhaps a spot to actually film a TV show or documentary, for one thing. Maybe Disney can have those shows that feature WDW from Travel Channel stationed somewhere there. Anything would work, just reuse that area as a movie-making spot again! :(

God bless the "Ignore" button.
I'd be pretty upset if the backlot tour closed, just out of nostalgia. That ride has SO MUCH untapped potential.

I like the backlot tour idea. I think it is one of the key theming elements in the "Hollywood" world that is DHS. I thinkg they could set up a mock-up backlot tour. Who says it needs to be a real working backlot? Why not a total simulation? There could be mock filming/sets or anything. We need the element of backstage at the movies in DHS.

Surprise to us too

Riding the Backlot Tour is one of our routine rides too when we go...and we were shocked and disappointed to hear that the spiel had changed from a live person to a recording version. I guess the disappointing part was that the recording takes away the ''surprise'' of entering a ''live set''. It is no fun if you know what is coming (for first timers more so ..but even for me....lol) I did talk with one of the cast members after riding and she told me that if requested by a guest that a cast member is preferrred that they have that ability to do that. I asked why the change and basically she just said that BLT was being phased out (rumor? don't know)...and the automated recording was being used cuz guests were complaining of the cast members forgetting their lines or messing up.
I really like the OLD OLD version of Backlot Tour. When MGM was a ''working'' and ''active'' movie set.

I heard the prerec sound for this the other day and was horrified by how bad it really was. The catastrophe canyon bit completely loses the sense of spontaneity so that entire section was duller than usual. The "conversation" between the two women was particularly cringeworthy. I don't care whether cast members make mistakes or not (unless they fluff the entire thing) bring back the humans!
