from what i can gather through google, most Izuzu (Chevrolet) 5500 diesels are worth about 1.0 to 1.2 million miles. by that time they would have been depreciated out and replaced anyway

yeah, but i bet the running gear on those RR cars have been replaced like 6-7 times already...

Actually no, those cars are still on their original trucks (running gear). Most all, however, will be gone in the next couple years as replacements arrive. In Canada, Via Rail has even more such cars running.

Wheels yes, just as you would change tires on your car. But the trucks are original.

cede that point, but those cars were designed to run until they rot(and then be fixed). a 90's to 2000's model HD truck pulling trailers are NOT... those trucks are like VCRs, DVD players and Microwaves... disposible.
