Babycakes anyone?

Hi! I was wondering if anyone has eaten at Babycakes at DTD?

I would love to know what they thought about it. My husband has celiacs, so we eat gluten free. I wondered if anyone has been to Babycakes and if they liked it.

We are heading down in September, and are very excited about these cupcakes!

Thank you in advance!!

I had a pumpkin cupcake top last time I was there. The frosting is fantastic and it's good cake, fairly moist and a nice spice flavor. I felt that in general though they were really overpriced even by Disney standards. I though it was enjoyable but the price will probably keep me from ever going back. It would be a fantastic bargain on the dining plan I suppose.

How much are the cupcakes going for there?

I think its $3.99 for a cupcake and $1.99 for a cupcake top. The problem is the cupcakes are small by typical standards (more of a reasonable portion size for one person than your average giant Disney cupcake). They are about the size of a real homemade cupcake. Maybe I'm out of touch with reality , but I'd expect a cupcake that I can share for that kind of price.

You can get a GIANT filled cupcake at Crumbs in NYC for around $5.

While I will agree that it is highway robbery it does not seem all that out of line the the other *insert cute name here*cakes places that have been springing up all over the country. Here in Jacksonville we have CamiCakes that charges about $3 per cupcake, Sprinkles charges $3.50, etc.

My prediction....they will have a line around the block and they will have to use a dump truck to make their cash deposits every night.

$3.99 isn't at all out of line for a gourmet cupcake, at least here in NY. Magnolia and Buttercup both have "regular" sized cupcakes that go for about $3.50. The cupcakes you get at Crumbs are bigger, but they're not of the same quality as these gourmet bake shops.

LOVE those things. Actually, all the Crumbs Apple based cup cakes are incredible.

Personally, I'm not a fan of Magnolia (I wouldn't consider it gourmet either but what do I know). I'd say Babycakes is better than Magnolia but they are both overpriced in my opinion. I guess its all just personal preference- I'd prefer to pay more for a Crumbs type cupcake that I can either split with someone or enjoy for two or more servings.

I feel like I'd be happy to pay around $2.00 for a babycakes cupcake. Now, if only they would bargain with me.

Honestly, you'll love it. The difference between a Babycakes cupcake and one from Starring Rolls is that the flavors are actually what they're supposed to be: Chocolate tastes like chocolate, vanilla tastes like vanilla, and so on. You can really taste the higher quality ingredients. So while they aren't massive like other cupcakes, they're actually better. The texture of the cake is somewhat different and I think the frosting isn't as creamy, but they're really good.

And I have no idea what they do to that baked donut they serve, but I could eat those everyday.

Keep in mind, I'm saying this even though I hold a slight grudge against them for stealing a photo off my blog (that I took of their WDW store) and posting it on their own website and not crediting me. :ROFLOL:

Thank you all for your input!

I will be trying these when we are down there. I know the price sounds high, but I am the person that won't buy a balloon at home and then at Disney buy more then 1 $10 balloon. I don't know how that makes any sense at all.

Plus I read its on the dining plan which we will be using, so it will be a snack or a dessert for our QS meal. Either way I am excited to have more then Betty Crocker yellow or devils food gf cake. :)

Thanks again. And if anyone has any other good gluten-free suggestions let me know!

I am excited to use my snack points here in September. I have a niece and nephew who only eat gluten free. It would be great if I could ship some to them.
