Correction: Disney hires a ton of college kids who think working at Disney will look good on their resume, and do the bare minimum just to collect their little paycheck... In other words, the magic in the Disney CM is disappearing because they just don't care... The only ones who truly put on terrific performances are the CMs in entertainment, since they are probably looking to get into some sort of acting career, and that would go farther on their resume than a CPer who is a cashier in Mouse Gears trying to get into investment banking...

I never really understood why the Disney college program would look good on a resume unless you are trying to get into the hospitality and theme park business. I understand it is probably a fun experience, but wouldn't working in a corporate office somewhere (even if its in the mail room) be better experience if your goal is to get a corporate job? At least you get a feel for a corporate culture and it has to be more relevant than flipping burgers or working as a cashier. i can totally see how the entertainers would get something out of it. Not trying to be a downer towards the program, but I have heard people make this statement before and I never really understood it.

Disney became good to have because of their high standards and strict rules. A job at a Disneyland could be a career. Like so much with Disney's parks, its a reputation no longer supported by reality.

Disney will only sink to 2nd Place because they allowed themselves to sink.

Uni-only fans may say it is all Uni's doing...but Disney is its own worst enemy these days.

While it's possible, I don't think DHS or AK will be beaten by Universal soon. Parks are at a high right now.

Parks are at a standstill. Both parks have seen no growth in 5 years and if it wasn't for how tickets are set up along with park hoppers Uni would already have bypassed them. On the other hand IOA (And soon USF) Have been growing exponentially, and will continue with the added value hotel and expansions in both parks

I'm glad I ignored this thread for a couple days, Though i'm sure more people will be calling for a Potter Swatter when Uni takes DHS and AK down attendance wise.

In a few years, maybe...this year, doubtful. I think this year there is a better chance that DCA climbs back to #6 on the domestic list ahead of IOA. If any park passes AK or DHS by the end of 2013 it will be DCA. 2014 or 2015...could be a different story.

well jeez, way to pat yourself on the back (possibly), lol. There are CM's in every line of business trying to do the best they can, a problem is the place is so huge and the turnover is so high that hard work in most lines of business goes unnoticed.

Well, the College Program used to be a lot more "prestigious" and selective. Back when they didn't use it as a cheaper crutch for 1/3rd of their frontline staffing. Before it became overblown and everyone knew what it really was, an employer saw "Disney College Program at Walt Disney World", and thought, "wow, a prestigious place known for its top of the line guest service. That's impressive." Unfortunately the program has grown so big and declined that the word has gotten out that there isn't much of any real interning going on and to many people its just an excuse to party and slack off for a semester.

Having said that, if you performed your job well, took classes Disney offers, and utilized your resources well, it can still look pretty good on a resume'.

This makes sense. I was really just focusing on the good time and party part. It does seem like it would be a good time.

A matter of time until what?

The only reason Uni is catching Disney on the CM front is because 75% of Uni's employees are people that got terminated from Disney. Uni doesn't have near the standards for their CMs that disney does.
Funnily enough, the 7 ex WDW friends I have who now work for Uni quit Disney looking for better conditions and future prospects. Which they now have.

Hrm...sortof like Ron Schneider? At least that's how I've read into some of his more...unique...later experiences at WDW before going to Uni.

I have a CM friend who is the head of F&B at the Contemporary Convention Center. She has been there for 6 years and worked her way up to ALMOST $8 an hour. Now that's prestige.

Martin, you probably know of her as she comps a friendly Spirit in when he goes to WDW. She is a true sweetheart. I love her immensely. She comped me and my family in for the
NFL and once into EPCOT to dine with said friendly Spirit. I have tried to get her to move over to Uni or even Legoland when it opened. Just about ANY employer would treat her better and give better benefits.

No, not Ron. He's a good friend and has some.... interesting... Mouse stories to tell. More friends who've moved up I-4 in the last 4-5 years.

Yeah, I figured you were not referring to him. But, your comment reminded me of his blog.

I'd like to meet the man again. The last time I saw him face to face, I was 5 years old, and him and his little puppet changed my life forever.

I didn't realize that when Uni opened (I was there for that) that the wonderful spirit of many of the face/costume characters and their antics (which put then MGM to shame, even in my then teenaged opinion) was largely his doing. I didn't learn that until I was much older.

I should also add that he's forever ruined Small World for me, as now I sing Imagination during every ride!
