With the official announcement of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Diagon Alley, how long do you think we'll have to wait for the PotterSwatter (assuming it exists)?

They don't need a Potter Swatter.

Disney has great parks. They just need to do their own, Disney thing with them.

I really don't think Disney needs franchise stuff. If they keep the parks clean, keep the rides working and make the parks they have pretty...maybe add a couple cool rides...that's enough. Well, that and street entertainment, side acts, that kind of stuff.

And they should use the popular Disney characters. Stop trying to push characters that aren't as popular.

Make it family-oriented (not little kiddie oriented) and have a few cool rides.

It wouldn't cost them billions and would do well.

I'm actually pretty sick of this complaint. WDW doesn't need a "Potter Swatter". It doesn't need to match anything Universal does or be reactive.

WDW does need to build new attractions and have new draws to the parks. Yes. It doesn't need to do that because Universal is building great new attractions. It needs to do that because any theme park needs to constantly improve if it is to survive and prosper. Even if Universal never build any of Potter or Transformers or Springfield, etc., WDW would still desperately need new stuff.

Sadly, I don't ever expect a Potter-Swatter. Not that I don't expect more good or even great attractions in the future from Disney, but I don't think their strategy at the present is based upon them having the "best" attractions. Instead, through ticket pricing (extra days after the fourth on a hopper cost next to nothing), stay-on-site incentives (so you don't have a car), and so on, Disney tries to lock visitors in and maximize the return on each guest. Until large numbers of former WDW regulars start to flip over and make other parks the bulk of their trip, I don't seem them changing. I could be wrong--I hope I am. But that's how I see it.

Even if Disney goes all out on Star Wars land, it's still Star Wars...a movie that's 40 years old and a bunch of sequels. It has a fan base, but so does Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I'd rather visit Sunnydale than Star Wars land! But a small group of people isn't worth building a whole land for, IMO.

Most people will not be thrilled with a Star Wars land. The ride and the weekends are enough, IMO.

It lacks the popularity of Harry Potter.

But DHS needs something, so that would be fine. If they build that spaceship, I'll go see it. :) I have to go to DHS at least once a year to remind myself why I don't like it, anyway. :) And see BatB.

I agree with @luv. Clean up their parks, throw in a Pixar expansion/Star Wars expansion at DHS and they have some great things going for them. The only park with a real identity crisis is DHS. Should they put both of those expansions in (along with a little clean up), they'd have an impression park, IMO. I don't expect both to happen, though.

Fix the rides, add an attraction here or there, and they have top notch parks.

Understatement of the year.

wrote this back on march 21st in a thread pertaining to star wars:

we've gotten so accustomed to saying "potter swatter" that i don't think we realize that term is antiquated. it reflects disney's internal thinking during a time they thought they were untouchable and UNI would fumble the ball. but disney did such a poor job responding to WWOHP (and the franchise has maintained or built upon its popularity since the wizarding world opened) that it has grown too successful to ever be swatted away.

so, to borrow from '90s sportscenter: you can't stop them, you can only hope to contain them.

I would think if there was any franchise that could "swat" Potter, it's Star Wars
