So this debate about theme and backstory.....
It bears repeating that MANY (most?) visitors just go to the park. They aren't reading backstories. They aren't obsessing over the Disney Parks Blog. They buy tickets. They go. A successfully themed land doesn't require that anyone knows the backstory. People enter Fantasyland and get the feeling of being in a European town and that coincides with the European stories told on those rides. Even old Europe had faires and carnivals, so the carousel and Dumbo work in that feeling.
Again, reserving full judgement until I see it for real, but without knowing the backstory of Avenger's campus, what am I supposed to feel about where I am? I'm not sure anyone is going to pick up on any theme except, "hey Spiderman! Hey Dr. Strange!". It's a collection of characters in one place. It isn't a theme.
