So this debate about theme and backstory.....

It bears repeating that MANY (most?) visitors just go to the park. They aren't reading backstories. They aren't obsessing over the Disney Parks Blog. They buy tickets. They go. A successfully themed land doesn't require that anyone knows the backstory. People enter Fantasyland and get the feeling of being in a European town and that coincides with the European stories told on those rides. Even old Europe had faires and carnivals, so the carousel and Dumbo work in that feeling.

Again, reserving full judgement until I see it for real, but without knowing the backstory of Avenger's campus, what am I supposed to feel about where I am? I'm not sure anyone is going to pick up on any theme except, "hey Spiderman! Hey Dr. Strange!". It's a collection of characters in one place. It isn't a theme.

You are supposed to want to buy a Spider-Bot.

This is why I’d like for the Hive to get together and roast this project in person. We all seem to be on one accord that it’s not looking too great so far. It’d be much more fun if we talked sh** in person.

That’s not to say that we won’t like anything it has to offer, but this is deserving of a proper roast. They acquired Marvel years ago and this is the best they’ve come up with?

I believe it was said to pay tribute to Miles Morales because they want to be “more inclusive”. I’m not even joking, I think that’s what they said.

I like Miles, but wouldn’t it have been a bigger move to have him in the Spider-Man ride about shooting webs since he is a Spider-Man? Instead, they have some random kids you won’t remember from MCU movies to fill their diversity quota.
Ok, I had to Google who that is. See? I'm not the target audience. 🤣 Perhaps Marvel fans will understand this. I didn't because I haven't seen the latest version of Spiderman movies.

I'll keep quiet on this subject. I'm not one of the cool kids. 🤣

Blew up in their faces. Invest $1 billion in a Star Wars Land as Star Wars popularity is waning while you value engineer the Marvel land while Marvel is wildly popular with an ever-expanding slate of fan-favorite characters.

I gather people would prefer an animatronic Chris Hemsworth and Scarlett Johansson over Hondo Ohnaka. I’d let robot Black Widow explain to me how low the sun is getting 24/7.

He’s definitely more recent. But with him being a Spider-Man, he’s quickly riding the ranks. Has his own animated film and a big budget video game. That’s not bad. Certainly makes more sense than random kids from the MCU that have nothing to do with Spider-Man

It’s insane!

Who cares! Make something unique that people from all corners will want to visit at some point.

It’s this recurring problem of getting lost in the exposition. Focusing so much on crafting this elaborate world without ever really asking if it is a place worth visiting. The problem with Avengers Campus is that it’s warehouses and a compound. They’re placeless forms. It doesn’t matter how elaborate the backstory its still an environment that is not built around human occupation. Starting with studio parks in the 80s various parks keep trying to make drab places something interesting and exciting by filling them with clutter. The backstory of Avengers Campus is a rationalization to explain what is there, not a natural progression from existing stories. MCA Planning and Development released that the actual setting of Marvel comics is largely New York, a setting that would be redundant to Universal Studios Florida and would not properly capture the imaginative excitement of superheroes.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider Verse is a good movie and definitely worth a watch. It’s not tied to any of the other Marvel movies, so it’s just one standalone story. Miles does exist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as he is mentioned in Spider-Man: Homecoming (Donald Glover’s character mentions his nephew), but he has not been seen beyond that one mention.

I don't think the land looks good at all. Nothing really screams Marvel even remotely to me. It's all just so generic and rather ugly, to be honest. Nothing in the land really matches. It could be any sort of generic environment. A new Google Campus, an Amazon Warehouse. It's just so...generic. It looks absolutely nothing like Marvel should. Meanwhile, in the swamps...

It’s impossible to escape New York, but a dense block of it, with landmark buildings, would have been better. It also would have been more expensive. It also wouldn’t fit the California theme.

Yeah! Alright!

Personally I don’t think any of those photos from marvel superhero island look very good. I think avengers campus looks much better.

Ok but why is all the US Disney marvel themed to educational institutes
Because Disney was trying to be cute and clever and come up with their own idea for the project. They should have gone with a comic book feel or a real-life city feel. San Francisco was mentioned and such as aesthetic would have been preferable and would have made some sense.
