It’s also worth noting he said that during a time when the park was in its infancy and just about every change was an objective upgrade.
Yes, Walt wanted to add and improve things. The Matterhorn was thought of in order to improve the visual of the large skyway tower.

The monorail was an upgrade of the streamlined train of the future.

It's wild to think that up until Tomorrowland started to close for redo in '95, almost every single change was an upgrade for Disneyland. That's a solid 40 years of continuous improvement.

Ever since it's been hit or miss, and recently it's been expensive but misguided changes to the park.

What a time to be a fan! Now all we can hope is that they stop messing with it haha. Hoping they learned a huge lesson from TBA and they think twice about changing greatness especially when they don’t have the ability or personnel to get close to what they re replacing.

I doubt they're that humble.

When DCA was reviled, Disney knew it was because of their own cost cutting.

Now? Disney's gonna say it's only because it was replacing Splash, so people are being overly harsh. Or something. There's going to be internal excuses. After all- they delivered the most authentically New Orleans attraction ever, based on Tiana. It's our own fault for not loving it.

If true, it at least held out longer than most predicted. However, if it has to go away it would have been nice to see it last until the land's headliner opened, or nearer at least. I realize there is an actor at the show's beginning and end, which may motivate the cut, but I feel like a little tweak to the presentation could preserve the stuntronic portion.

the entertainment cuts at Disneyland Resort are getting pretty serious. When they can’t afford a solo piano player in a saloon and a solo actor for the Spider-Man show and would rather have the Hyperion and Fantasyland Theatre sit empty…. We know something is wrong.

This is not the way to increases per guest spending…. But it’s Bob’s way.

i wonder if this is permanent or has to do with prepping/construction of phase 2 AC? seems like a lot of money went into the animatronic flying spiderman and setup to make it all work, to just perm stop using it

It's not just one actor/stunt person, there's also techs behind the scenes that won't be scheduled with hours anymore since this thing runs basically hourly throughout the day.
There's one tech in the GA with a tablet, then 2-3 behind the scenes for the launch and catch of the stuntronic. Maybe even someone in costuming also.

Well yeah…. But “1 performer” shows how simple the show is budget wise.

Certainly, but I was thinking of the recent purge of actors who have unionized as a possible catalyst. Or, if not that, the fact that it is a stunt performer who likely comes with a different fee and requirements as well. As was said, I'm sure the show could be rewritten to only include the stuntronic and meet and greet character.

Yeah, I saw this and am really hoping it's not true. It's the headliner for the land.

Hopefully it's just a temporary thing to refurbish the stuntronic while construction starts around the land. It has been running constantly since the land opened and probably does need an overhaul at this point. Or some oil. :D

So about that rumor on the Spider-Man stuntronic show - here's some news from Disneyland officials via Orange County Register:

"The jaw-dropping Spider-Man “stuntronic” robot that gracefully somersaults through the air above Avengers Campus in Disney California Adventure will add more performances to his busy crime fighting schedule just in time for the kickoff of the Christmas holiday season.

Spider-Man will fly through the skies in Avengers Campus even more times throughout the day starting Nov. 17, according to Disneyland officials.

Based on guest feedback, Disney California Adventure will add more opportunities for Spider-Man to meet with fans, according to Disneyland officials."

-------

"Media reports of the Spider-Man stuntronic show closing in November due to budget cuts have proven unfounded."

And this is why you a) stay sceptical and b) complain loudly. Has never failed me. Super glad they realize they have a winner on their hands.
