Unless Universal has their own wholly owned properties to replace Marvel Superhero Island, they have little incentive to ditch the land. They will never get a better licensing deal.

True, but unless I'm mistaken, the movie versions are off-limits, and as those versions become more and more ingrained in the popular consciousness as "THE" versions, there's going to come a time when they're going to want another property that might work better for them in the long run ("What's that, you say? J.K. is working on a Harry Potter spin-off with mages in 1930s New York? Hello Wizarding World Stage 3!!!").

But to the points at hand, isnt that the function of Scarlett? Shes hardly employed for her Thespian qualities

Johanssen, you mean? I thought she did a very good job in the Avengers. She managed to not get overshadowed in a film with Ruffalo, Hiddleston, Downey, and Sam Jackson. She very much portrayed the "Oh, crap, I'm walking with giants, so I better do my darnedest to keep stride" quite well.

People have been saying that the films would cause a disassociation since X-Men came out and was a hit. If Universal is interested in other properties it just seems are to believe that Marvel would be a target. I doubt they have any other deals as secure and predictable as Marvel. The licensing fee is also now likely a steal as well.

I had hoped that Universal might let go of Marvel Superhero Island and do a re-skin of the area as TRANSFORMERS ISLAND. Then they started work across the way on the now-open Transformers ride, and my hopes for a Marvel-back-at-Disney-World deal were dashed.

I doubt it will cost Disney one penny.

If Disney really wanted Marvel for their theme parks, the next negotiation with Comcast over cable channels, if Comcast lasts that long, all Disney has to do is say, "Hey, include all theme park rights for Marvel or your customers won't have ESPN". Comcast would have absolutely no choice but to kowtow.

I highly doubt Iger will not get Marvel in WDW before he leaves, he doesn't seem as the type of guy who would leave business unfinished.

Jimmy Thick- Really, Disney has the upper hand here.

I thought Universal owns the rights to 8 Marvel characters and Disney would in fact have to buy the rights, not just change the contract? Because if it was as simple as contract negotiating, wouldn't Disney have just took of care that when the bought them in the first place?

Universal has the rights to use all the characters that are currently part of Marvel Superhero Island at Islands of Adventure and any characters in the same family. So they currently have all the Spiderman, Avengers, X-men and Fantastic Four characters covered. Disney could offer to re-negotiate the terms of the contract, but since it was made back when Marvel was in pretty bad shape it's likely that Uni wouldn't be interested in changing it unless Disney offered them a lot of money (and excluding the use of other deals as leverage).
