Avatar: The Way of Water uses a variable high frame rate presentation, with many scenes (especially underwater and some flying/action shots) shown at 48 fps and others effectively at 24 fps via duplicated frames. The entire feature is delivered as a 48 fps file to theaters, but portions are motion-treated to preserve a traditional 24 fps “cinematic” look in dialogue or calmer scenes
