Avatar (the movie) and its Sequels

I've only watched Avatar 2 once in the theater and never at home. Every time I attempt to, I ask am I up for a three hour movie? I say no and default to some short horror or 1950's b-movie.

Same here. Once in the theatre. I might give it a go one of these nights at home. I suppose this is what happens when one of the biggest selling points of the franchise is the spectacle of it all on the big screen. The film loses a lot of its perceived value on the tv at home.

Agree mostly but I think there are a couple caveats. When getting ready to watch to the watch the sequel of the original film you haven’t seen in a while or marathon type movies like Star Wars, Indiana Jones and maybe one day Avatar.
Do very many people actually do that? I guess its because I remember this stuff I don't end up rewatching a franchise prior to the next movie.

I look at the streaming numbers regularly, and I don't see a huge pop in watch minutes prior to the next movie being released. Sure there is a bump, but not one you'd expect if there were huge numbers of people rewatching to "catch-up".

People say they play "catch-up" with movies all the time around here. It's not unusual for a movie fan.

I'm sure it happens, as not everyone remembers the details from one movie to the next unless they rewatch it right before. I'm just saying the numbers don't really reflect that, at least not in a major way. So either those people own the movie, which if you're not watching it regularly why own it, or there isn't as many rewatching as we think.

You remember what happens in Avatar 2? Like the details?

Not down to every line, but I yes remember the majority of it.

Broad strokes Jake and his family are on the run and end up hiding with the sea tribe, where their daughter learns of her connection to Eywa, until the climatic battle at the end with Quaritch who had turned himself into a Na'vi like Jake where during the fight one of his sons die.

It does actually occur to a moderate extent. Inside Out and Stitch both popped, so did Avatar 1. This would equate to 4-5 million households watching domestically, which certainly isn't insignificant. Not everyone and it's just a couple weeks of data, but I'd certainly say a moderate number of people rewatch. Maybe like 20-25% of movie goers.

Sure, as I said it happens. I just expect more especially compared to the box office, with something like Avatar I’d have expected a larger pop, like double that.

I edited my post ha ha, it occurred the following week too. A bit closer to double and we don't know the fringes outside of the top 10.

If I assumed 2 viewers for each household, maybe like 20-25% of all viewers domestically.

20-25% is still low in my opinion, as again I’d expect more. But again maybe more are like me and just don’t need to “catch-up”. Or don’t really care about the previous story.

All I remember of the movie was a ship sinking and people running around while a band played and some guy drowning in the icy waters. I think there was something about saving the whales to bring back to save the future?

You might have a few movies mixed up there. Might want to have a rewatch to "refresh" yourself. ;)
