Something I sometimes forget, I first watched this movie at age 39 or so. IF I'd seen this at age 9-14, it would've blown me away. It's everything I would've wanted in a movie, spaceships, aliens, fighting, cool animals and glow in the dark plants. With the exception of the "romantic" parts, it'd been something I would've watched many times. So perhaps even though I'm not the biggest fan, perhaps I don't have to be.

I did enjoy the movie at least the begining parts. I did find it odd that every strong female human had to die. (seems a lot like if a girl does anything worthwhile in a film she sacrifices herself or falls in love...lame! Bring on Merida and Katniss!!) I enjoyed the message of the earlier parts and the hatred it makes you feel for the villains. However, there was a part in the end, during the final fight seen that I just couldn't believe the scene was still going. The tide of battle turned so many times I could barely keep track, and I definitely wandered in my mind during the part where everything seems to start blowing up in slow motion. That's the reason why I don't remember all of GI Joe I suppose. To me explosions don't equal substance they're background in my mind and I sit there waiting for people to start talking again. The film could have done fine with just half that scene.I did start enjoying it again after that though.

Anywho, I expect Avatar land to focus more on ambiance than anything else. I'd be interested to see how the beautifully rendered landscapes translate.

Something Joe Rohde said (and that seems obvious once you hear it) is that Animal Kingdom is intended to be sort of a "first person" park where the guest is the main chararacter of their own adventure. YOU travel through time to save the last dinosaur. YOU travel up a forbidden mountain and are pursued by a yeti. YOU travel through a nature preserve on a photo safari.

Avatar will follow this model as well. YOU explore the world of Pandora and travel through its bioluminescent forests and encounter and the strange, alien animals that live there. I think that's why they're not worried about people not liking the plot or even being able to name any of the characters. They won't be the focus, the guests and the sights and creatures of Pandora will be.
