Avatar sequels announced to be made in NZ...

I wonder if we can trade Avatar land for a New Zealand area of AK? It's a stunningly beautiful place full of incredible landscapes and amazing wildlife. Just a thought. ;)
I'd do that in a heartbeat.

Now that every theme park is turning itself into a 'movie franchise lands' park, DAK could really stand out by strengthening its core appeal as a natural park, instead of adopting the same strategy as the other 18675 parks.

I feel more excited about WDW building Avatar Land than I do about seeing any of these actual sequels to the movie. The movie was good, but when it ended I didn't get that "I can't wait to see the sequel!" feeling. My only interest in Avatar will be going to visit Avatar Land when it opens and only cause its at WDW. That is if Uni hasn't taken over by then! (kidding)

Avatar was certainly a good movie, but I personally don’t think it will have the lasting impact and appeal that Star Wars, and a few other franchises have had. Fourteen or so years ago, people thought that the Matrix might be the next “Star Wars” so to speak, but it never happened.

This is one of the primary reasons I don’t believe having a “land” dedicated to Avatar is a good idea. Maybe a ride in DHS would be more appropriate, but then again, I could be wrong. In the end, it might be wise for Disney to develop Avatar land with the thought that it might become Beastly Kingdom down the road (just in case Avatar isn’t what everyone thinks it will be).

Avatar in Animal Kingdom is going to be breathtaking, we mustn't worry about that. Now the upcoming movies on the other hand...mehhh lol.

I think Disney already tried going down that road with their 'Notazoo' campaign. Families want some bang for their buck, not paying $100.00 for a natural park. IMHO . :)

I really think Disney has bought a load of goods with Avatar. The movie did so well because it was a spectacle that ushered in a new age of effects. It was memorable more so for how it looked. I really dont see the hook, as groundbreaking as it was, it is now the norm for special effects laden movie making. It might do better as a themepark attraction, but only if the rides are interesting, as the movie on its own merits is kind of forgettable. Certainly not a classic in the same vein as Star Wars.

They can shove Avatar at us until they're blue in the face (wink) and it won't change my interest.

I thought Avatar was a great movie, but a single story, not a starting point for a franchise. It's a bit of a been there, loved it, done it for me. But I'll let myself be pleasantly surprised if Cameron out of the blue comes up with some great new twists.
Fern gully 2!

I honestly imagine the same plot as the original star wars trilogy mixed with pocahontas for the next movies.

Ie, in the first movie, they saved their land.. lost their tree (Aldeeran), Joined forces.. the "magical" biological godness helps the dude (the force), they destroy the dropship with the bombs (the death star) and they force the bad guys into retreat to earth.. (clears part of the power of the empire)

so to resume, I expect the next movie to be similar to "the empire strikes back" .. and then the "return of the jedi" for the final win by the blue guys..
Hell, supposedly the general guy will be coming back from the dead as a cyborg so there's your Vader.

The one "saving grace" of this entire Avatar Land is that it's really based on the planet/moon of Pandora. I'm thinking and hoping that this "AL" won't have much to do with the actual plot or stories of the films, but focus instead on the floura and fauna. IF that ends up being the primary focus, then who knows, it can be pretty amazing. While I don't like the idea, it's going to happen, so I'll just wait and see. And as a fan of Disney, I really hope that they knock it out of the park. I want this to be great. Disney needs this to work in a big way and I'll be cheering them on.

Some local radio djs where talking about these sequels the other day. They kept laughing at the thought of them. They were saying things like no one they knew thought the first one was good and the only reason people went to see it was because of all the media attention it received due to the cgi and cost to make it.

I might believe that, but that doesn't explain why it's the best selling Blu-ray of all time.

I remember reading that a lot of the blue ray sales are attributed to it being the first blue ray released in 3-D. When everybody got their new 3-D TV the only thing you could buy/watch in 3-D was Avatar

Again...a little blown out of proportion.

Pretty good score from a reliable site.
