You're assuming Disney can actually build a theme park land in less than five years (from the start of construction...which hasn't actually started yet).

I am not making an assumption! I am just posting the dates that have been mentioned previously on other threads.

But yes more than likely things will be pushed back and forward as all things are with the Mouse.

That's an awful lot of sequels. I hope they have the material
They can shove Avatar at us until they're blue in the face (wink) and it won't change my interest.

I thought Avatar was a great movie, but a single story, not a starting point for a franchise. It's a bit of a been there, loved it, done it for me. But I'll let myself be pleasantly surprised if Cameron out of the blue comes up with some great new twists.

I'm actually impressed with the open mind you are keeping.

I honestly imagine the same plot as the original star wars trilogy mixed with pocahontas for the next movies.

Ie, in the first movie, they saved their land.. lost their tree (Aldeeran), Joined forces.. the "magical" biological godness helps the dude (the force), they destroy the dropship with the bombs (the death star) and they force the bad guys into retreat to earth.. (clears part of the power of the empire)

so to resume, I expect the next movie to be similar to "the empire strikes back" .. and then the "return of the jedi" for the final win by the blue guys..

You just never know what James Cameron will come up with. You see Avatar similar to Star Wars. James sees The Godfather!!

James Cameron Says Avatar Sequels Are Like The Godfather
It’s exactly like The Godfather, except with giant blue aliens.

Director James Cameron wants you to think of his three upcoming Avatar sequels (which we now know will be filmed in New Zealand) as a family saga along the lines of The Godfather. We’ll just let that lie there a moment.

Cameron told AP, "We spread it around quite a bit more as we go forward. It's really the story of his family, the family that he creates on Pandora. His extended family. So think of it as a family saga like 'The Godfather.'"

Sure, Cameron may catch a little flack from clowns like me for asking audiences to compare Avatar to The Godfather. But if anyone in Hollywood deserves the benefit of the doubt, Cameron’s the guy. His movies never fail to entertain or make huge piles of money. Avatar has raked in over $2.8 billion at the box office, making it the highest-grossing film of all time by a wide margin. He also has a habit of casually creating game-changing innovations with every film he makes.

James Cameron on the set of The Godfather, er, Avatar.

For the new Avatar movies, Cameron will be using newly developed software, some of it created by Weta Digital to allow for the large number of underwater scenes depicting sea-dwelling societies in the world of Pandora. Cameron explains that the second movie will not take place entirely in the depths, but will include both land and underwater scenes spread out all over the alien moon.

"We're blowing it out all over the place," said Cameron. At first I thought I was going to take it onto other worlds as well, in the same solar system, but it turned out not to be necessary. I mean the Pandora that we have imagined will be a fantasy land that is going to occupy people for decades to come, the way I see it."

The first of the three planned sequels is expected out in 2016, seven years after Avatar first hit theaters.

hu.. the first movie is nothing like the godfather masterpiece :|
I think he just threw that comparison to an extremely good trilogy that won oscars to avoid the references to star wars XD

It's being filmed like how they made the Hobbit movies - all at once and edited into different movies later. I believe Back to the Future 2 and 3 were the first movies filmed together this way.

He's talking about the sequels. The sequels will be the the Godfather. The first was supposed to be a ripoff of Dances with Wolves, but I saw Disney's Atlantis the other day and I was shocked how much of Avatar I saw in it! Not only was the story similar, but certain conversations were word for word identical and characters were virtually identical to some of Avatar's characters. It's as if Cameron saw Atlantis and thought if it was made in his style with live actors and in space, it could be very successful... He was right.

He has been working on the plots for Avatar since the 80's so it is safe to assume that there is a lot of material written.
I'm just waiting for him to make Battle Angle. He was supposed to make that one before Avatar. He even started an art department for it before he started work on Avatar. That art department has been doing preproduction work for that project ever since and it's still working on art for that movie! This must be a World's record for the longest a movie has been in preproduction! He finished the final rewrite of the script a couple of years ago. He said it will go into actual studio production when he's finished with the Avatar sequels.
