AVATAR land construction progress

Thank you for telling what a theme park is. I haven't been to an amusement park since '92, unless you count DCA.

This quote was in the context of the 11-year gap between a major ride at AK. I don't need only rides, just some new rides, at least one a decade. I also said that AK is my favorite park (since Epcot 91). Do you really think that would be the favorite park of someone who only wants rides? Give me a little credit.
Amusement parks have unthemed/barely-themed rides and theme parks have themed environments and well-themed rides. I am not saying they should, but Disney could build a well-themed ride in a well-themed environment every year and still be a theme park. It takes a mix and now (11 years after EE) we are getting more than a few rides, but a whole land, and night show! Yay!
Please don't take my comment too far out of context. I was simply replying directly to the quoted portion, an not trying to imply your opinion was wrong in any way. A lot of times some posters seem to forget that Disney is not an amusement park that focuses on rides, but a theme park that focuses on many aspects of entertainment for guests. I do apologize if my post seem harmful in any way.

the truth of the matter is you could probably never know the answer to that.
to me a new land is more important to a park than a 15 minute show, JMO of course
im sure there will be a surge this year and next year
i could see this for DAK
10,000,000 2015
11,000,000 2016
12,000,000 2017

I think you are probably close on the numbers, but that kind of misses my point.

Let's take the great new Harambe market addition! I was very excited to see it in January and it is so cool! I just kept finding different signs and views to take pictures of... and you can see the train! (IMHO a train that only delivers you to a mile walk to see a petting zoo) but at least you can see the train. I was thrilled to see this and it is needed in the park, but that is not the 'main' reason I came.

Would I go to AK if it only had rides and no theming? No. Would I go to a park with all theming and no rides? Maybe, but I would not pay 65 to 100 dollars a day to do it. When Disney opens an E-ticket, do I plan a vacation around it? I haven't yet, but I may for Pandora and SW. I can wait on Toy Story land. And while I am so excited for River of Light, I am going to wait for Pandora to open before I come back.

Maybe that is just me, but surely other people feel the same.

I am sorry if I took it wrong. My dad is sick and I think I was a little upset when I responded, so I apologize for being short.

However, a focus on rides is not just for amusement parks. Walt added the monorail, the submarine voyage, and the Matterhorn in a single year! From 1959-69 DL put in 6 rides (4-5 being E-tickets)!

Here is a list:
1959:
Matterhorn Bobsleds/Monorail/Submarine Voyage

Four years after opening, Disneyland added the Matterhorn, a 147-foot-high mountain bobsled adventure, to Fantasyland, and the eight-vessel Submarine Voyage attraction to Tomorrowland. Also in Tomorrowland, the Monorail became the Western Hemisphere’s first complete, daily-operating system of its kind when it was dedicated by Vice President Richard Nixon.

1963:
Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room

Unveiling a new media of three-dimensional entertainment called Audio-Animatronics®, birds, flowers and Tiki gods perform an exciting musical fantasy in Adventureland.

1965-66:
“it’s a small world”/Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln

Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln, featuring a “human” Audio-Animatronics figure that could realistically simulate human movements, was installed in the Opera House on Main Street, U.S.A. after a preview at the New York World’s Fair. One year later, more than 500 singing and dancing dolls representing children from around the globe came to life in “it’s a small world”.

1967
Pirates of the Caribbean:

The amazing attraction featuring dozens of Audio-Animatronics characters debuted in New Orleans Square and has evolved into one of the most popular Disney attractions of all time.

1969
Haunted Mansion

Complete with 999 ghosts from all parts of the world, the Haunted Mansion has been thrilling and scaring Guests at its New Orleans Square location for decades.

That is a pretty impressive list for 10 years and I wouldn't call Disneyland an amusement park.

Think Avatar Land will use any of the StoryMaker technology (using mm+ and magicbands to know names, address, special days, and enhance the experience in other ways)? Seems like they could do something cool with the luminescent plants and/or the rides. Or was the land already too far into the planning/ construction process for that to have been incorporated?

I think there's a chance. What do you guys think?

no doubt
sounds like story maker would go perfect with this land, along with star wars

I wouldn't have a problem postponing a trip. Right now I don't a value at all in visiting DHS and it is only going to get worse before it gets better. I can wait to go to WDW. Get some of this construction done and I'll stop in for a visit.
Agreed. I have no problem postponing a trip for starwars. Its all about value for me and right now until starwars is done I just don't see the value. I know many people feel the opposite and that's fine. I just have a hard time with getting/experiencing less and paying that much more.

but they havent even given a date yet for star wars.... its not like disney is in the business of speeding up projects and getting them done as quick as possible, it wouldnt shock me if it doesnt open to 2021

That may very well be but it won't change my mind. If Disney doesn't value my money (and I am sure others as well) than so be it. Disney has become extremely lazy and I really don't see it changing as long as the gates keep a turnin. So I will be content spending time every other year in the DVC and visiting other parks and doing other things. And when I feel the value is there, we will go back. Or if I win the lottery, whichever comes first.;)

Remember, one time Joe Rohde was asked if the magic band technology was going to be used anywhere in the Pandora expansion. He stated that only in one place but in a very intimate way. I have no idea what the heck that means though. It sounds both fascinating and creepy at the same time.

I'm going to be in Orlando for a conference in late May, and as long as I'm there I might plan a stop at AKL to see RoL, but I am not planning any more "trips to WDW" until after Pandora opens...

Hmmm. I don't recall seeing or hearing that before. So eh, I expect something very small, but I really hope TSL and SWL will take advantage of the opportunity.

I'm delaying a trip to see Pandora actually. I know Eisner popularized the theory that guests need about 8 attractions/experiences in a day to feel satisfied... well I require about 8 new attractions/experiences to justify a trip. Not even particularly picky about what qualifies as new either.

But from my last time in 2012 (pre-SDMT), 2016 is actually measuring up to finally be a significant year and I could easily justify (and want to) go this Fall... but I will probably wait for Avatar.

Star Wars on the other hand I'll delay a visit to Disneyland to see.

Taking things back to topic...

Has anyone pointed out there second little off-shoot from the top prefabbed rock? I'm wondering if I'm just dumb and it's been there forever or something we missed due to the angles of a lot of the photos
