Please don't take my comment too far out of context. I was simply replying directly to the quoted portion, an not trying to imply your opinion was wrong in any way. A lot of times some posters seem to forget that Disney is not an amusement park that focuses on rides, but a theme park that focuses on many aspects of entertainment for guests. I do apologize if my post seem harmful in any way.
I am sorry if I took it wrong. My dad is sick and I think I was a little upset when I responded, so I apologize for being short.
However, a focus on rides is not just for amusement parks. Walt added the monorail, the submarine voyage, and the Matterhorn in a single year! From 1959-69 DL put in 6 rides (4-5 being E-tickets)!
Here is a list:
1959:
Matterhorn Bobsleds/Monorail/Submarine Voyage
Four years after opening, Disneyland added the Matterhorn, a 147-foot-high mountain bobsled adventure, to Fantasyland, and the eight-vessel Submarine Voyage attraction to Tomorrowland. Also in Tomorrowland, the Monorail became the Western Hemisphere’s first complete, daily-operating system of its kind when it was dedicated by Vice President Richard Nixon.
1963:
Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room
Unveiling a new media of three-dimensional entertainment called Audio-Animatronics®, birds, flowers and Tiki gods perform an exciting musical fantasy in Adventureland.
1965-66:
“it’s a small world”/Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln
Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln, featuring a “human” Audio-Animatronics figure that could realistically simulate human movements, was installed in the Opera House on Main Street, U.S.A. after a preview at the New York World’s Fair. One year later, more than 500 singing and dancing dolls representing children from around the globe came to life in “it’s a small world”.
1967
Pirates of the Caribbean:
The amazing attraction featuring dozens of Audio-Animatronics characters debuted in New Orleans Square and has evolved into one of the most popular Disney attractions of all time.
1969
Haunted Mansion
Complete with 999 ghosts from all parts of the world, the Haunted Mansion has been thrilling and scaring Guests at its New Orleans Square location for decades.
That is a pretty impressive list for 10 years and I wouldn't call Disneyland an amusement park.
