AVATAR land coming to Disney's Animal Kingdom

The same way a huge E Ticket attraction about a Yeti fits into the park.

yes because the people of the himalayas have belief systems devoted to the Yeti and to them its a real animal that has shaped their way of life. It's not the same as animals in a movie that are explicitly known to be made up.

No. Wall-E lacks much that is organic, unlike Avatar, where it's a world full of life.

My arguement is that Wall-E doesn't fit much to the theme of AK like Avatar IMO. Wall-E is about conservation of the Earth, which is also a message throughout AK and the arguement for including Avatar. Avatar is a sci-fi movie with blue aliens, on an alien planet with alien animals. It does have to do with conservation of nature, but arguably nothing else pertains to AK, strickly the message of conservation. And if we are going to argue that Pandora has an Earth like appearence making it acceptable, then why not have an actual Earth environment recreated and a conservation theme involving animals, like something to do with native american culture.

Indeed. Which is what this project could end up being, and is what Beastly Kingdomme in essence was.

Fact: regardless of love or hate for the title, this will bring in more average guests. As Potter deservingly has.

Fact: if the project is like Potter it'll probably go in Camp M&M. If it's a true epic expansion it'll be north of Asia. WDI have long wanted a way and a reason to have guests be able to walk to Conservation Station.

Fact: this project did get out over a month ago. It was dispelled as improbable.

Fact: privately TDO and even Burbank admit a) they've been doing most things in Orlando too cheaply in the past 10-12 years and b) that they would have loved to have their own Potter equivalent.

Fact: Potter phase two will be complete before this. As will the next E ride for USF.

The next 5 years are certainly going to be interesting in Orlando.

Looks like I need to write a follow up to Theme Park Wars.

That's putting it mildly!

Mention TDO, Avatar, AK and $500mil in the same sentence and I'm laughing so hard I need oxygen.:ROFLOL:

In hindsight....:lookaroun

Overall...I like it. It's a cool property with mass appeal and lots of attraction potential.
Good move.

Very true. Jim Cameron is very strict about his property. I don't see him letting go of the creative reigns on this. Expect very close collaboration with WDI, and very tight quality control ala JKR.

Cameron saw Terminator at USF and was impressed but still had his own notes after working with Universal Creative. I really think his standards are so high, especially from a visual standpoint that this project can look absolutely incredible. For what it's worth, Forbidden Journey has little to no story, it's really just a best of the Potter franchise and it's the best ride in Orlando.

It may be mentioned in Staggs' Q & A, but I really think the Beastly Kingdom plot makes more sense than the Asia plot but we shall see (it's also possible that this has already been answered between pages 33-59, if so I apologize).

So, basicaly this thread has turned into...

"Man, an Avatar land. Cool! I'm excited!"

And then...

"No it isn't! AND NO YOU MAY NOT!!!!!"

Theme fits in Tomorrowland better than AK. Movie fits in HS better than AK. Seems they only had space in AK to shoe-horn this in. I'll wait to see before passing final judgement.

Only because of My Little Pony. Let's be honest. And Disney knew it would play into little girls.

I am personally proud that Disney is taking a very adult theme here and running with it. AK needed something - and this could end up being one of the most amazing experiences we have seen in a theme park. There is insane potential.

Have you seen Avatar? it's no more adult than Star Wars is. Even Pocahontas is a more mature movie what with not having a happy ending.

yeah and that applies to unicorns, and dragons how? Your all rah, rah Beastly Kindgom, yet your contradicting yourself every step of the way.

You know you can easily say; Hey, I'm a upset at this decision. Not the biggest fan of Avatar, and would've liked to see some other, maybe more fitting film/theme in it's place. But hey, whatevs.

Instead your battling the whole concept of it's theme and what not, and your sounding like a contradictory fool in the process.

Yeah because Avatar doesn't share the theme of conservation....This is basically a more expanded sci-fi rakifi planet...or whatever that thing is called where you have to go by train.

Haters gonna hate. Pointless discussion.

Ummm..have you seen the movie - or did you just not "get" it? There is insane symbolism and messages in it. While children may find it entertaining, they will not be able to understand the vast majority of what is happening in the movie.

how am I contradicting myself? Unicorns and Dragons have been a huge part of ancient western culture. They used to kill Narwhals and slice their horns off and parade them as Unicorn horns. Every culture has their own version of a large fire breathing reptile. You're assuming that I'm contradicting myself with no real grounds for it.

All you have to fall back on is this vague message of "conservation" and you try to attack anything I like just to prove a point that's flimsy to begin with.

You even start denying that Beastlie Kingdomme is a fit for the park, which mind you, it was part of the original plans. I even say "yeah sure, let's pretend that the aliens fit in with the theme of animal kingdom, that means Stitch works within the theme too right?" and yet there you are contradicting yourself saying "no! stitch has nothing to do with animal kingdom". Then neither does Avatar.

symbolism and messages are purely subjective. There are insane symbolism and messages in The Teletubbies if you're gonna go by that.

So, the Finding Nemo, Tough to be a Bug, and the Lion King, attractions have no place in DAK because they are based on movies about animals that talk (fictional).
