News Avatar Experience coming to Disneyland Resort

Why does it seem long? Either way they have to build a bridge, whether for the EGW or for access to Simba. So its the same timeline whether it goes into the Backlot or it goes into Simba.
Well unless they build a temporary alternative I assume it's more ideal they complete EGW before working on Avatar, so that the entire land is cleared for construction.
Harbor entrance is not closing, it'll just be accessible via the bridge over Harbor once the EGW project is completed.
You're right, what I meant was pedestrians would have to go through the walkway and security by the EGW area, so it won't be as convenient as just crossing Harbor.
Yeah Avatar is going in the backlot/ bus transpo area and Coco is going behind the Incredicoaster IMO. They seem to make the most sense. Also, what reason would they have to develop those parking lots when they still have “expansion pads” in DL and DCA proper.
To spread the crowds or increase park capacity? I also think selling hotel rooms overlooking Pandora or other lands might be worth it. But I can also see them waiting to see how DCA 3.0 goes first.

Again if it was to go into Simba they would still have to build a bridge from DCA to Simba, likely larger similar to the DTD bridge to handle the crowd. So putting Avatar into Simba isn't going to make it built any faster.

Also they can close down the Backlot and build both Avatar and the EGW at the same time if they want to speed things up. Just like they can do with Simba as well, build both the bridge and the land at the same time.

So there is no timeline difference from what I can see no matter what slot they chose, ie it would be the same amount of time.

You're right, what I meant was pedestrians would have to go through the walkway and security by the EGW area, so it won't be as convenient as just crossing Harbor.
Security checkpoint will now be after the bridge still in the Esplanade, not before it as was originally planned. Also public access is now part of the bridge directly accessible from Harbor. So all pedestrian traffic is still the same, just now on the bridge instead of at the Harbor crosswalk.

Both changes were part of the revamping to get buy-in from the Harbor businesses.

The Transportation Hub would still be moved over to Manchester to get the traffic off of Harbor, something Anaheim desperately wants. So that part of the project doesn't change, and is what allows for DCA expansion for Avatar into the Backlot.

To spread the crowds or increase park capacity? I also think selling hotel rooms overlooking Pandora or other lands might be worth it. But I can also see them waiting to see how DCA 3.0 goes first.
Capacity would be increased either way, so I don't see any real benefit for it to go into Simba other than if the Backlot was to be used for something else.

Long story short, no matter what the Backlot if gone from DCA no matter if its Avatar or another land.

I also think they've been planning the eastern gateway thing for years now whereas developing ideas for how DisneylandForward needs to function logistically or with sight-lines might require more foresight and thus be a more complex solve for Imagineering

Agreed, as other than a couple tweaks the EGW has been basically shovel ready since 2016.

With the "5 year" timeframe, I feel like it's more likely to have Eastern Gateway & Avatar in the Backlot as phase 1 of Disneyland Forward before they develop the Simba Lot
At the very least they should have the EGW up by 2028.

In my preferred timeline for the overall 10 year plan that Disney promised Anaheim here is how I would do it/hope it would be done:

Avengers Infinity Defense and Stark Flight lab up by 2027.

Coco up by 2028

First phase of the Simba lot buildout announced at D23 2028.

Avatar comes online in 2029 to coincide with part 4.

Another Avengers Campus expansion that takes over the Hyperion and maybe even the Animation building and Disney Junior by 2030.

2031-2032 first phase of the Simba lot expansion debuts.

Finally attention would turn back to DL for a new Fantasyland and Tomorrowland which will be a huge selling point of the 80th anniversary in 2035.

I doubt there will be a "new Fantasyland" at DL like there was for WDW. As they've been plussing each of the dark rides since the 60th, which is evident they want to keep it as is. Also I suspect they would build out some land like an Arendelle for DLForward which is equivalent to a "new Fantasyland".

As for TL, I'm still of the opinion they're wanting to do it now given all the start/stops and almost announcements we've been hearing from the rumor mill the last couple years. So I suspect they'll announce something for it after the 70th with more details at D23 2026.

My guesses for what could be own deck for a new TL would be replacements for AstroBlasters and the TL theater, a Space Mountain reimagining and finally the Speedway would be ripped out for an entirely new attraction assuming they could work around the monorail beam.

Yup. DL’s Fantasyland is still imo the strongest Fantasyland of the castle parks, and despite its age I’d be shocked to see it change.

The only thing that really has to be replaced would be the Fantasyland theater. The spot is ripe for a decent sized attraction.
OR they could just *gasp* use the theater to host theater shows, and then it wouldn't seem like dead space. Disneyland is just weirdly allergic to these mid-sized stage shows that every other resort around the world is able to run without issue.

How is Disneyland at big budget nighttime spectaculars? Great! Small acts? Not as many as there used to be, but still in a better spot than most of the other Disney parks.

Medium Acts? Ican'titstooharddddddddd....Andthelocalswon'tWATCHthemagainandthenwehavetodoWORKtoSWITCHITOUTandthatsHARDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD........

I will never not be frustrated at a company with boatloads of money being seemingly unwilling/unable/indifferent to use existing infrastructre that would work just fine if they would actually use it.

Throwing out some armchair imagineering.

If the plan is to build Avatar in The Hollywood backlot and bus loop area, then this new land will be very close to Tomorrowland. This could then give Disney an opportunity to connect the two lands, similar to the Hogwarts Express at Universal Florida, with an attraction that transports you from Tomorrowland (Earth) to Pandora. That type of attraction would fit with Tomorrowland's "space port" theming (although it does seem like they are moving away from that theme with rides like Tron at Magic Kingdom).

It doesn't make a ton of sense with the two movies we have now, because they don't dwell on space travel too much (although it is in there). But Jon Landau did say we are going to see a bit more of earth in the 5th movie. So it's possible that space travel becomes a bigger aspect of the series in those films and that is where the storyline for an attraction could come from.

Could be cool 🤷‍♂️

Another idea: put Avatar land on Paradise Bay. They can work rework WOC or use some of the Avatar waterfalls for the show. I'm fine sacrificing Ariel, Goofy, and the carnival rides too if needed.

The pictures of Pandora in Florida at night from a couple days ago have me re-hyped for this project. I completely forgot how incredible it looks and it’ll be so fun just to walk around at night. Plus they could possibly do a cool light show at night. Can’t wait for more details of this
