AVATAR breaks ground

Two questions about FOTHLK then - one - do you think it's such a "must-see" because it's in AK & there's so little to actually see (especially indoors) - if it were smack in the middle of MK would it still be on so many people's must-see lists

I certainly think so and it's the highest rated show in any of WDW's parks.

And with it's movement and the budget to do so, do you think any changes will be made to it? any major improvements?

I think it would be on many people must see lists. I've seen theme park shows all over this planet for many years and FotLK has the best live vocal performances I've ever seen. We've gone into DAK on several occasions just to watch FotLK on trips when we otherwise would've skipped DAK. I like VotLM too, but the vocal performances aren't the same quality (same for BatB). FNTM is a good show, but since the focus is on telling the story and the songs aren't as catchy it doesn't fall into a must see for us.

Really? Highest rated or most attended? I wouldn't doubt it either way - my kids (3,1) LOVED the show. The adults in my party were entertained, but really just loved to sit & cool off in the AC.

Would we have went to the show if it was in the MK - maybe. but would it have fit into my "crazy mommy plan it down to the second itinerary" debatable

Why are these two things being grouped into the same category?

The Lion King on Broadway costs somewhere in the vicinity of a Million a week to run. How can that be compared to a show in a theme park?

For what it is, FotLK is a great show. How many THEME PARK shows are on that level? Not many.

I don't know why you are talking about Broadway. A run of the mill community theater puts on much better stuff than Disney's parks live entertainment (although the cruise ship shows are good). But to each his own.

I enjoy FOTLK, but it's probably not one of my favorite theme park shows - that would be Finding Nemo. FOTLK is still a great, high-energy entertaining way to spend 40 air conditioned minutes. Anyone who has doubts about the kinds of shows Disney is capable of staging should also check out videos of the Aladdin Musical Spectacular at DCA. From a technical and visual standpoint, it's probably the most elaborate theme park stage show I've ever seen. I've also heard that the shows on Disney Cruise Line are really good as well.

Hunchback was 100 times the show, still suffered the Disney treatment, but to be fair it was replaced with a fantastic photo op.

Don't know it's coming? How could you not? Lol your at a dead end and I think a five year old could figure out that your going to go backwards. Now if your talking about the actual turn inside the mountain that's different and I assume that's what you meant.... I hope;)
I think they mean, if its your first time, and nobody else has spoiled it, you won't know that it won't just be a normal roller coaster layout.

Hunchback is my favorite WDW show...However, it did break the rules they implemented in 1998 wherein it exceeded the MACF (maximum allowable coolness factor). I'm just hoping that the enforcers of this rule don't see the new steam punk dragon that the new MK parade is getting.

I guess I just equate "real theatrical production" with Broadway, as that's the only place I have been for "real theatrical productions". I have been to some run of the mill community theatre and it's a train wreck compared to FotLK, Aladdin, BatB. I guess I am just not sure what you are looking for out of an in park show? Would I pay $100 a ticket to see FotLK? No, but as a 40 minute attraction as part of a larger experience, it is great.

Disney does surveys, people say MORE PHOTO OPS. Just trying to improve guest satisfaction.

You're right. People want what they want. We (on this forum) may not feel the same way, but it's what the "masses" clamor for when they take the once in a lifetime (or every so many years) trip. Why do things that actually make memories, when you can have photos taken to remind you of that long line you waited in as a family to stand next to Aladdin & Jasmine for that very photo?

The majority of people don't go to Disney parks to see Broadway shows. We may enjoy the variety, but many people who go to Disney want as many experiences (rides & memory saving photo ops) as possible which requires less time commitment (and yes, I already know the irony of this). That's why Las Vegas has a ton of amazing shows and restaurants, but minimal photo ops...and even those are on the streets with street performers, not organized by the casino resorts. If everyone wanted photo ops, they'd be in Vegas, if no one wanted them they'd be gone or greatly reduced from Disney parks.

Really one of the most engaging theatre shows was replaced years later with a street back drop because guests demanded it?

Deary me.

While I agree people seem to LOVE photo ops. I was being sarcastic in my original post. Disney has lately become notorious for removing things and replacing them with A. Nothing. B. Something vastly inferior.

Never cared for Hunchback as a film, so I never saw the theater show. I like Lion King quite a bit but I loved the whimsy of Nemo. And yes, I liked the new songs.
