Aunt Polly's gets permit for mechanical work...

Just read on the permits thread that on July 12, a permit was filed for mechanical work at AP's on TSI. It's for AC work....anything to get excited about, or is the building always air conditioned? Figured that mold and mildew might take over if it wasn't, but just thought I'd throw this tiny bit of info out there in case there is someone out there holding onto info that hasn't been brought into the open yet.

My guess is this is work they have no choice in ... I know there's a breakroom there.
I'd love to see Polly's reopen. Dining there was something I did regularly. Now, I don't think I've been to TSI since the early part of the last decade.

Agreed on all accounts. Nothing to say it will definitely re-open, but they're definitely making it more habitable. It does have a break room upstairs, so they could just be making it safe for CMs to hang out in.

I'd like to see it come back full force, but I'm not hopeful.

I returned from WDW about a week ago, and I got excited when I noticed that Aunt Polly's was listed as open on the Disney app on my phone. When I saw it was still nothing more than a vending machine location, I assumed it was just an error on the app, but here's hoping there's at least a possibility it will reopen in some capacity.

I'm longing for the day when Phil Holmes "retires to spend more time with his family" and the new VP of MK re-opens all of the closed, dead locations like this across the park.

One can dream, right?

Though I'm starting to think like WDW74 that it could only happen if Meg, Tom, Bob and Jay go bye bye too...

I saw this news last week, I am sure it nothing more then needed work to make the break room useable. But we can dream right? How nice would it be to have Aunt Polly's open again?

This is likely the case. The HVAC system in there now is 40 years old, and the ductwork is probably full of nastiness. I believe they are doing a complete gut/replacement of the HVAC system on both floors. It will probably just become a nice break house for everyone on the island, since there were no permits or plans filed to "Remodel" the place.

Yeah probably not more than adding or removing a vending machine. TSI just does not have enough traffic to support AP opening again. TSI in general is just so run down. It is a great location to go and get away from the heavy crowds, but with nothing new since? Forever! It does not have a lot of appeal. Like 74' and other have said, they have not been on TSI in many many years.

There isn't a ton of traffic, but there is certainly enough to generate revenue. Even with a simple menu of drinks, ice cream or sandwiches.

It really comes down to management philosophy. The problem is it doesn't meet the revenue goals Phil, Meg, & Co. would like. But as we've discussed many times on these boards, does every single location on property need to turn an immense profit for it to be considered worthy of opening by management?

I know TDO's answer to that question, and that is why so many places are closed, no matter how much it may hurt the park experience.

When I visited TSI two weeks ago, most of it was behind construction walls. About half of the first island was walled off, and the bridge to the second island was blocked. I haven't seen anything online to explain what was going on.

Well that was all they were selling before it closed. Ice cream, drinks and PBJ sanwiches. It was a lame menu and nobody bought anything. I imagine the ice cream did OK in the warm times, but they needed to be a little more creative.
