Now, never having traveled to Hawaii before, we were waiting till the resort opened to make our inaugural visit. I see the cheapo seasons to be similar to those of the WDW resorts, with the addition of February, and October instead of December.

Just wondering, for those of you who have been before, are those awful rainy seasons? I know nothing about weather patterns in Hawaii, and would hate to bank points for the next year, just to be down there in monsoon season or something.

Thanks for the point chart! That helped me find out that I only need to buy into the DVC for $50000 to get 1 week a year @ a 2 bedroom with my family of 7 during "value" season. :brick:

I lived on Oahu for 4 years, and storms pop up all the time. My best recommendation is to use weather.com or intellicast.com and look at the historical rainfall index to help you pick your week of travel. I do remember several times where it seemed like it rained for days on end so definitely do some research.

Duh... obviously it would not work for you and your family. Hope your head really hurts from banging it!

Of course, you could also "bank and borrow" and go every 2 or 3 years. However, I do agree, the DVC is getting to a point where they're pricing themselves out of most people's budgets.

I can hear ya DADOF5. I have 3 kids and last year the youngest officailly became a real person in DVC's and Disney's eyes as far as headcount goes. Last year we had to borrow from this year because we had to stay in a larger room(no AKL 1 BD available). Now this year we will be staying(1 bdrm @ Kidani) for a shorter period of time, had to borrow some pts from next year and in fact are only using our 1 day pass we got with Give a day,Get a day. The only reason we are stopping by WDW is that we are staying the week before down in Sanibel/Captiva and we will be seeing other attractions in the Orlando area. Next year we are planning to go elsewherewith our points... the magic is dwindling for us!! Hopefully the car can head West, as in CO,UT,WY, instead of South for a change.

You could use points to stay at the Grand Californian and tour SoCal.

The wife and I did that and we had a blast.

DVC sent an invitation for Aulani memberships for $114/pt plus a $6 credit. (not sure how the credit works.) The first 800 buyers also get their name on the property, like the fountain behind BLT. Although I want to stay at Aulani one day, I don't think that's the best place for someone in NH to own.

Resorts like Aulani were one of the deal makers for us. We know eventually the magic will wear thin, and we'll want to start going to other places. I think the DC resort will be announced shortly after Aulani opens. We also only bought roughly enough points for every other year while we have the kids taking vacations with us. After that, we'll be looking at studios and probably be able to go every year.

I do have to say I was suprised with the number of points needed in all seasons. This is based on the expense for most to travel to the destination, the cost on the island, and no theme park. I completely understand the amazing attractions and we are so hoping to go in a few years. Maybe one week in DVC and one week in the hotel side. Who knows.. but 357 points for a 2 bedroom with a standard view in Value Time is a lot for one week. Going to find away... someday!

Wow...I'm sure the resort is very luxorious and beautiful. I've only been to Hawaii once and it was at the end of June/beinning of July. The weather was beautiful and there were misty rains for a few minutes and that was it. It rained a few times at night. I looked at the point chart and it wasn't that bad, point wise. It seemed comperable to WDW.
