Auditioned last night...

Ok so I auditioned last night and unfortunately I didn't make it. I guess the news is that I didn't get cut right out the gate. They cut about 3/4 of the 80 people there right after the dancing portion of the audition. Then we did the animation exercise and when there were about 15 left after additional cuts, they called me back and said I wasn't hired.

I'm kind of surprised they didn't call me aside as a Jasmine or Pocahontas look-a-like because everyone there I was talking to said I looked perfect for that part. They were actually shocked when I came out and told them I didn't get picked for anything.

I'm going to try out again in 6 months. I think my biggest weakness was not using my legs as much as I could have during the animation so I'll be working on that. Plus one of the casting directors came up to me and told me that. Anybody out there fail their first audition and then get it the second time around? HONESTLY, do you think I have a better chance now that I know what to expect and what I need to work on?

Oh and one more thing...tomorrow they're having auditions specifically for parade performers. Am I allowed to audition for that being that its a completely different position I'm auditioning for? Because I know it said you had to wait 6 months before re-auditioning for character performer.

Having been in characters for many years and once part of the audition process, I can say that it never hurts to keep going back. Many people do better a second time around and then get the position they are looking for. The ones who give up after the first "no" are the ones who never get hired.

If you made it through the movement portion of the audition then you did very very well. That is better than 90% of the people who go through a character audition. You should practice making huge movements with your whole body in front of a mirror for the animation portion. How can you pantomime certain ideas? Like that you are happy or sad. You should make sure that you are always smiling and looking like you are having a good time. Do everything very big and very confident.

I hope that helps. Being a face character (look-alike) is a tremendous thing to be able to do, but some of the best face characters in the park are ones who started out in "fur" and know the whole process of being a Disney character it provides a more rounded and over-all fun experience.

Good luck with practicing and retrying. Even though you did well on the movement(dance) portion, it can't hurt to stay brushed up and improve on that as well.

I hope all that helps some.

yep 6 months. just because the title is different they are all the same role. Character performer.

float driver, puppeteer, parade performer, sets, face, fur, you name it, it's labled under character performer and you have to be ready and willing to do it all or nothing at all.

And that is just as it should be...although 6 months seems a long time, that way every one becomes part of a team in characters and you learn to contribute as part of a team...

I would love to do them all. I just wish that I could pass the audition.:(

Eh...try out until you get it. lol

If I don't get it the 2nd time around then I don't know if I'll try out a 3rd time. Its not something I absolutely need. I already have a real job. lol Unfortunately its not as fun as it would be being a character but I sure as heck couldn't live off Disney pay alone.

Oh, I will. My next audition (most likely in the fall) will be my 5th. I won't get up til I finally pass.

I auditioned three times. I passed all the auditions, but because of my height (5'5" 1/2 by Disney standards), they didn't have an opening for me. I made it to the advanced dance each time. I was told by one of the casting ladies that she didn't see me as a face character because my face is too distinct. She said if they put a wig on me, that I would look too much like myself w/ a wig instead of a character. Then, the next day I got a call back for story time with belle as belle...so you never know  different casting directors, different opinions, maybe? Also, maybe they weren't looking for Jasmine/Pocohontas that day. You never know...:veryconfu And the first time I auditioned I got pulled for a power ranger. I didn't get hired for that because I guess I wasn't tough enough doing the routine they taught me. Oh well...it was my very first audition. Definitely keep trying...the more you go, the more they will remember you and recognize your enthusiasm to be cast. I got called back in November a little over a month after my last audition and got the job. Now I work full time and love it! Just keep working hard and keep going back. If you are determined enough, you'll eventually get hired. Best of luck!

Wow you've already auditioned 4 times? And you're going back for a 5th...that's determination! That's good though. Don't give up!

My audition will be in July...probably 6 months exactly from when I had my last one.

Yep, I was aware of that. I was developing an SOG in the early 90s for the Studios and contacted California for a copy of their Guidelines so I would have a good resource, and there were some similarities but more surprising were some of the differences.

I actually liked having them all one department for a couple of reasons:

1. More variety to the job each day and week (float driver, performer, sets, shows, breakfasts, attendant, coordinator)

2. Stronger sense of team and of ownership of the job

3. I think it is easier to become a part of the department because of so many doors that you can go through, then internally you can move around quite a bit.
