Attractions that don't belong...

- Aladdin is borderline. That section of Adventureland has so many themes that it kind of fits. Even before the ride was installed, there were shops themed to Zanizibar (a country in Africa). Now that the ride is there, those shops are themed to an Arabian marketplace. However, the ride looks out of place sitting right next to the Tiki Room

- I can partially agree with Splash Mtn, but only because of the ride's location. The main street in Frontierland is themed to the old west. Therefore, the desert mtn of Thunder Mtn is appropriate. However, since you have to walk past the lush forested area of Splash Mtn, it seems a little awkward. Now if the locations of the two were swapped, then it would be a little more natural. I think I'm being picky here.

- The old Skyway station in Fantasyland is horribly out of place. Most of Fantasyland looks like a carnival, with the fake circus tents everywhere. But standing at the end of the street is this detailed chalet. Now maybe if they updated Fantasyland to look like Disneyland's version.....

- Indy Speedway actually fits pretty well with Tomorrowland once they give it a makeover. Granted it is out of date, but it really gives Tomorrowland a dynamic feel. Tomorrowland is supposed to be "a world on the move," right?

- I always thought that Rock n Roller Coaster was out of place. It makes that end of Sunset Blvd rediculously crowded, and it doesn't fit the Sunset Blvd theme. At least they could have put up some street signs or something to lead us to believe that G-Force Records was based near Sunset Blvd.

I honestly thought that this ride would go better in it's own music-based land (they could have made a new stage show, and opened a couple new shops/restaurants too), or somewhere off New York Street.

- The Honey I Shrunk The Kids Area is just kind of thrown into New York Street. New York Street is supposed to look like a realistic version of streets in New York. Yet, you can walk through a building to get to the HISTK play area, which is not concealed at all? Once again, I'm being picky here. What's worse, is that I really can't suggest a better place to put it. Maybe with the other kids stuff near Animation Circle?

- The Tarzan Theater has already been mentioned again and again. I thought I'd at least put the attraction out there, because it too is horribly misplaced. However, where else should it have gone? Camp Minnie Mickey, and Discovery Island already have big theater-like shows, and Africa has the biggest attraction in the whole park. It would have potentially spoiled the Oasis.

In an ideal world, the theater would have been located between Africa and Asia, and Rafiki's Wild Planet would be located behind it along a new path that connects Asia to Africa. I can dream, can't I?

- Rafiki's Wild Planet is not misplaced, but it is the most inconvenient thing to get to in all of WDW. It should be accessible by foot so nobody has to sit on that train ride to get there. I'm sure there was some logic behind this decision, but that's for a whole other thread.

1. Indy Speedway (just needs to go)
2. You know your right. Why in the World was 20k in Fantasyland, they had nothing in common? They should have put it in Adventureland.
3.Goofy's Jamboree
4. And I can't think of anything else.

To all the people who say 20k was out of place – I have to ask why do all the rides in Fanatsyland need to be based on an animated film???

If you think about it when WDW first opened back in 1971 the only place in the park to find rides based on Disney films WAS Fanatsyland, so with that in mind Fanatsyland was the only place in the park to put 20k. If you ask me that is the way the Magic Kingdom should have been left – the original concept was that when you enter each land you are entering a separate unique world not a hodgepodge of Disney films.

Buzz Lightyear and the Aladdin rides are the ones out of place not 20,000 leagues.

You should hang out in Boston some time

I agree with Alladin and Tarzan, but only half with 20K. It is a fantasy, but it's not really in theme with the rest of the rides in fantasy land.

Here's my list so far....

1) Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin - A character from a present time movie placed in TOMORROWland?
2) Stitch Encounter - See above
3) Indy Speedway - Enought's been said, let's move on
4) Test Track - I'm with Grizz, I just don't see it. The testing of today is out of place in FUTURE World. Would've been a nice replacement for the Indy Speedway though, IMO (still out of place though)
5) Mission:Space - See comments above about today's testing technology in Future World....
6) Rock N Roller Coaster - Agree with previous comments

I'll leave it at that for now....

Well, the Project Gemini rumors claim that it won't be called 'Future World' for too much longer. That would take care of that problem.

Kids Come First!

The argument about the Indy Speedway has been made repeatedly in the forum but there's always a new generation of members who don't seem to grasp the concept of Walt's intention with this attraction. While many legitimate arguments can be made about the Indy Speedway, it's intentional placement in Tomorrowland is not one of them. We adults tend to forget that little kids visit the park and, if it were up to some of you, you'd eliminate most attractions designed to inspire and awe small children, contrary to Walt's mission. Driving small, badly aligned cars around a race track may not appeal to most adults but to small children, this idea rocks. Just sit in the grandstand for a few minutes and watch the look on the kid's faces as they zoom around...and, don't kid yourself, the parents love it too!

Driving a car IS the FUTURE for small kids and this constant harping that the attraction is a waste of time or 'out of place' are ill-conceived notions selfishly anchored in the need for the next adult thrill ride.

Now before you jump all over me about any of this, here's what Walt Disney had to say about it....so take it up with him:

"Tomorrowland will be the world of the future. We'll send people on tours in a rocketship, showcase the newest science and technology and even little kiddies will get in on the act being able to drive a car, something they wouldn't be able to do for years in the future."

Very well put! Thanks big dog!
I agree with you totally! Walt had his own ideas and plans for the park, sometimes people just forget what comes before the word Disney ....
WALT!

I've always thought that One Man's Dream was out of place, not a bad attraction, just out of place. I mean, it's next to Millionaire and the Backstage Tour!

I Disagree.....
For one, it is one of the most popular attractions at both parks...DL is fastpass, and I have never seen it without a line! Its a fun and interesting little journey! It would be like replacing Peter Pan!

I think that if Walt was alive today, he would have gotten rid Indy Speedway several years ago!

No Doubt! Go cart tracks are all over central Fla. And just imagine what could go on that land if tied to to the sub lagoon!!! DisneySea comes to mind!

I disagree. While it is Fantasy, I would have to say because it is at heart Science Fiction, it doesn't belong in Fantasyland. It belongs more in Discoveryland (which MK, of course, does not have) or a sort of Discovery Bay themed area. IMO, it would be like putting Splash Mountain into Fantasyland. Sure, it has Disney characters in it and it's fanciful (moreso than 20K actually), but it clashes horribly with the rest of the land which has more of a European villiage/ fair motief.

The whole speedway issue is interesting. I think you need to ride it as a child to understand why it is themed in Tomorrowland. I've been riding it since almost the day it opened and I still look forward to riding it (even though my three y/old now drives). Update it fine, take it out? NO WAY! If you want a park of all thrill rides go to IoA or CP. That isn't what WDW is all about.

I thought what DL did for Autopia was great. If they would just remove the Rocket Rods track that looks completely awful.

As for 20k in FantasyLand it's a toss-up. It was science fantasy, so possibly it fits. It always was a transition between FL and TL for me and I kind of liked that concept.

I would still accept an updated version in Adventureland though. If that wasn't an adventure I don't know what you would call it. It would just be an interesting theme to match what's in A-Land now. Bring back the Nautilus... Now I have to go pull out old video and re-live my childhood.

I believe that Food Rocks is being replaced by Soarin Over California. Since The Land has a food/ecology thing going, I'm not sure SOC is more appropriate, but I'm sure glad that it's coming!

From what I hear it is not going to be like the Soarin in California. It sounds like it is going to be something indoors with some sort of start of the art projections screens or something. Maybe there is someone else here who can explain it better.

and so when it comes - if it's SoC - it won't fit...at all.
