Todays attraction...........

Spaceship Earth!

What do you like about the attraction?
What don't you like about the attraction?
Have a weird of funny story?

This is teh first attraction I always go one when at WDW. It puts me in a vacation state of mind. A fantastic ride that educates the rider. The detail of some scenes is great. The smell of rome burning is potent. I miss Walter Cronkite's naration but I think Jermey Irons does a great job.

THe clunking of the cars as you go through the attraction can get distracting at times. ANd the ride vheicles themselves need to be updated. Being 6'2 and trying to fit yourslef into a car that small is a challenge. Especially when going backward My neck is above the headrest. Thats very uncomfortable.

I know I'll probably get bashed by this BUT I really don't like this ride too much. Only part I like is when you are going in and coming out how trippy it looks going up with the lights and stuff, other than that I think the actual setting is more of an attraction.

I absolutely love the ride, and it is definitely the first one we head to. With the crowds being down this past winter there was absolutely no wait. Definitely a relaxing ride (a little bumpy) and the smell of Rome burning is classic........

Spaceship Earth is by far my favorite ride at Walt Disney World. It just feels so other-worldly going through it. Going up and coming down are great, but just going through those scenes creates this odd feeling. If they added some padding to the headrest/seats I would even be happier! By any chance does anyone have pictures of the ride of say when it broke down or came to an emergency stop. Let me know if you know any sites with pictures different than the usual!

Thanks
Mike

It needs a good dusting/hosing down.
Most the special effects don't work anymore.
The clunking of the cars is louder than the soundtrack.

But, texture of the outside is very cool lit up at night.

:sohappy: Definitely my favorite ride in Epcot. The only bad thing is that the headrests:hammer: needs some kind of cushioning!!! OUCH!!!!:veryconfu

Wow!!! jcmayid please explain a little more why you don't like this ride. To me it's one of the best rides in any of the parks. It always signifies that I 'm at Disney. I like everything about this ride. The narration by Jeremy Irons, the burning smell of Greece, and the bachwards descent towards Earth. I'll be there in 20 days anD i can't wait.:sohappy: :sohappy: :sohappy:

Sorry, I really can't explain, it had been years since I had ridden it, when I did I was dissapointed. The clunking and all made it worst, other than that I thought the theme and the ride was pretty boring, did float my boat.

I think the oil is what keeps it from getting stuck now days:lol: The oil is actually so potent at times that it can still be sensed in Rome. It is still a signature ride that needs some serious help. I think one of the biggest problems is the loading of wheelchair people. It is very distracting (screws up the audio as well) to have to stop every time somebody in a wheelchair arrives. Personally, I'm rather surprised they didn't plan better for this when the ride was designed. It isn't that old as I'm sure people were in wheelchairs at WDW in the 80's! The cars could also use some better sound technology and cushions! Other than that, it is still a must ride for us and is probably one of the best rides at any of the parks. Now if only the squeaks, bumps, stops, and ending could be fixed:)

Btw- I think they should adopt a few "special" ride vehicles that would allow a wheelchair to roll right in and somehow be fastened to keep it from moving. The ride would still need to slow down (or stop) but it would be faster and more convenient for those that is disabled.

Heading for the great escape.
My favourite ride, and its in my favouritte park.
I think the audio could be a little improved, volume might hide the drive noises.
But the story about communication is well presented and IMHO a very important one in these times of change and uncertanty.
Always find the naration oddly inspiring.

Spaceship Earth is a great ride and still one of, if not the most impressive architectual achivement on Disney property. There's just something about seeing the towering sphere from an airplane, watching it slowly approach as you near the park in your car, and finally ascending into it once you're in the park that's not replicated in any other Disney ride. I like almost everything inside the ride, and the burning of Rome is still perhaps the best executed scene in any dark ride, ever. I still miss the Cronkite narration, but his voice is less relevant today and Iron's colder spin on the script fits the subject matter better, at least for the first half of the ride. I dig the update, too, especially the teenagers with the intercontinental videophones and the fiber optic displays on the way down and out. The only thing I really wish they would change is the tacky and irrelevant astronaut mural on the entrance. Oh, and what happened to the paperboy's incessent screaming? The new voice sounds like Ben Affleck.

Spaceship Earth is a definite must-see attraction. Any visit for me to EPCOT isn't complete without a ride in the "big golf ball". I really enjoy these slow-mover rides, especially this one that goes up at an angle and comes down backwards and at an angle. Even the music on it is cool. However......what they could do to really improve this ride would be to remove the idiotic "EPCOT" sign with the Mickey hand on the outside of the attraction, as well as add padding to the seats.

The ride is great, excellent detail, wonderful ride building (w/ or w/o Mickey's hand, I don't care). I agree, they need to remodel the vehicles (make then a wee bit more futuristic).

I remeber the first time I went on I was scared of the darkness at the beginning  Give me a break, I was 8 or something.

A wooly mammoth?!
I thought this was about space.
The mural said so.

Where's that little kid?
He: "Extra! New York Daily!"
At least Rome still stinks.

Vid-Phones look like fun.
I'd call that Japanese girl
when she was changing.

Ooh! Fibre optics!
What do those bright lines spell out?
"Use AT&T."
