Attraction of the Day...Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

I think it got slower as well. I rode it in 99', 00, and 01' and immediately thought it was faster in 99'. A lot of parks have been installing trim breaks to reduce the wear and tear on the wheels and trains as well as better control the station flow. Those hairpin curves take a lot of life out of the wheels and can cause a rough ride if they aren't frequently replaced. Maybe some CM's can shed some light on this. I'm sure it all could be in my head but it had that "out of control" feeling a while back and it now seems to be gone.

I love BTMR! I love the view of the Castle from the top! My parents don't do coasters, and when I was 16 we went to the World for Spring Break. My little brother and I talked my mom into going on the Railroad, saying it was slow and not too wild (we were used to Six Flags). The entire ride, she said over and over, "I reeeeally don't like this. I reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally don't like this." LOL!! Memories!

I think its a great ride! #1!

:) The funniest thing i have done on Big Thunder Railroad was when I had a screm outbreak when we were departing from the station and I screamed SO Loud and everyone looked at me and i laughed so hard. Another funny thing was when i was going up the first top hill and i ducked down and threw 5 nickles behind me and they hit the people a few rows back!

HAHA:lol:

This past Saturday I noticed that the "engines" no longer have smokestacks or lights on the front. They had them two weeks ago, but then they mysteriously disappeared. Does anyone know why something like this would be done? Hopefully it's just for maintenance because they look kind of goofy without them.

Many many years ago when my parents first visited MK, my father took my mother (who doesnt like rollercoasters) on this ride claiming it was the scerene WDW railroad that goes around the park... I dont quite know how she didn't notice the whizzing trains or screaming people... *shrug* lol... but at any rate... needless to say, my mother was quite upset with him... hehe...

On a personal note... I love this coaster... especially if you bring a date... and you just happen to get pushed against them by the g-forces... :p

Thanks:) I feel a little better now. It probably has more to do with the weather/conditions and such.

Disney4648- I hope you were only joking:( That could seriously hurt somebody. Think about that hitting you at 30Mph in the eye.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad....what can I say? Well, it's definitely a worthwhile attraction, more based on theming than the actual ride itself. The last time I rode it, I couldn't help but notice that it seemed to have been quite a bit slower than it had been before. I definitely advise that people ride it. I prefer a faster coaster (or ones that just seem faster, like Space Mountain) but this is definitely worth it.
