Walt Disney World seems to have, once again, taken 4 of the 5 top spots in US theme park attendance this year!! Epcot saw a 4 percent boost while the Disney-MGM Studios saw a 2 percent decrease. Magic Kingdom and Disney's Animal Kingdom saw no significant change =) These comparing 2002 to 2003...

Here are the top 10 parks:
1. Magic Kingdom- 14.04 Million
2. Disneyland Park- 12.72 Million
3. Epcot- 8.62 Million
4. Disney-MGM Studios- 7.87 Million
5. Disney's Animal Kingdom- 7.31 Million
6. Universal Studios Florida- 6.85 Million
7. Universal's Islands of Adventure- 6.07 Million
8. Disney's California Adventure- 5.31 Million
9. SeaWorld Orlando- 5.20 Million
10. Universal Studios Hollywood- 4.58 Million

*sigh* I wish more people could understand Animal Kingdom, but it seems all people want are rides  Gee who cares about seeing animals from all over the world, including ones that rarely seen, in a beautfiul environment. Oh well, at least intelligent people like it :D

I was actually shocked the MGM had dropped! I'm also kinda glad Epcot got the boost, hopefully this is from Mission: Space, maybe over time that will me more thrills for Epcot!

Well obviously 7.81 million people wanted to see animals! Thats 1.24 million more than Islands of Adventure, so if people really wanted rides more than animals, Islands of Adventure would be higher on list and Animal Kingdom would be a lot lower!

This is true! I hope their attendance will be as high! That way = more competition = more rides for us! :D

Take in consideration the fact that people staying on-site will usually stay put in the resort area because of benefits and such things! Disney has almost 20 hotels while Uni. has 3! These kind of things also affect attendance!:animwink:

Some quick observations:

Universal Studios beat out Universal's IOA...doesn't say much does it...perhaps the park is beginning to lose its appeal (too many thrills not alot of substance...works in the short run not the long run)...doesn't say a lot either that IOA is only .76 million away from Disney's worst American themepark DCA....Speaking of DCA...it beat out both Sea World and Universal Hollywood (kinda sad it you ask me that DCA beat out those two parks)...but still the park should be at #6 or higher...and it would...if it were trully a well designed Disney park...anyway thats just my opinion...

Should be interesting to see next years numbers...and how the new additions to the parks will affect the numbers over the years...

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, I do not feel Disney's service standards have gone down and I am personally upset over that. The problem is where are you going ot find 55,000 people that all act the same way? When we were smaller, just one or two parks, it was much easier to have consistency. Most of the CMs care about the guests more than anything, it's impossible to find 55,000 people that will all care about the guests on the same level. There are a few bad eggs in the crowd, but that's just statistics for you. Am I happy that there are bad eggs around? No, but I know that the numbers are against us and so the ones that care about the guests just have to do the best we can.

I am sorry if you have had constantly bad experiences, and if every single CM was outright rude or of no help to you on every single visit you have had recently I want to hear about it. I am just 1 of 55,000 but I care a lot about the happiness of our guests.

Good numbers this year for the top ten parks. If Animal Kingdom doesn't have ANYTHING new in 2004 or 2005, expect the numbers to decrease, since the park is already in its 6th year and many have had the chance to visit. I think Universal Studios Florida, currently in 6th, will take AK's place, with the opening of Revenge of the Mummy and the new Shrek 4D USF's attendance should increase. Islands of Adventure should decrease somewhat as well, since a new ride isn't going to be in place until 2005/2006 (Van Helsing). Unless Sylvester McMonkey-McBean's Very Unusual Driving Machines opens IoA will most likely fall a place in the standings. DCA's increase is very promising and with Tower of Terror opening soon they should have somewhat of an increase for 2004.

IoA is a great park...but I doubt it will be able to withstand the test of time unless they find someway to expand the park...if indeed it has never passes Universal Studios in attendance...then that says a lot of both the studios and IoA...

IOA's strength roots in the thrills. The only way it can survive is to change these thrills by time. . . otherwise, the majority of guests will just look elsewhere for the latest craze. Talking to a bunch of my friends who are IOA fans, nostalgia doesn't seem to be of importance there.

unfortunately, IoA is like the nearby amusement park (Paramount Carowinds). logn lines, many thrills equals poor experience. The same can almost go for Universal studios. Their attractions are fairly long considering everything is mainly a "show" and not a ride. these cause long lines just as well. they have side shows sure but those go what 11:30 for 15 minutes, break for lunch com back at 12:45, break, 1:30...it's a useless system. this is where Disney succeeds and Universal fails. Even though Test Track may have a 90 minute wait, Universe of Energy doesn't and hey, look at that it's nice, inside, cool, funny let's go. or maybe spaceship earth? ok so what if space mountain is a 30 minute wait? haunted mansion has a 10 minute wait right now and the parade is about to start. TTA has no wait, give it the 5 minutes and then SM will clear up.

BTTF has a 45 minute wait...so does Earthquake...and Jaws...and Jimmy Neutron...Shrek...Twister...and by the time you get to the end of that "45" it'll be/seem more like 90.

I know how you feel. When my family goes I am pretty much the only one who seems to care about AK. I like all the parks. I feel like I get rushed through simply because they don't like it.

Maybe it's jsut my opinion, but just because not as many people go to AK, that doesn't mean that they're "less intelligent". I like animal Kingdom, but others might prefer, say, Magic Kingdom, because it's the original park and filled with Magic....I dont think that makes them less intelligent. Disney is about the classic parks too, and many little kids don't enjoy Animal Kingdom. I just don't think that someone who enjoys DAK more than anyother Disney Park makes them "more intelligent"?
