Attendance drop in the parks... I wonder why

Not everyone. Some people have a lot of time to post on message boards. How busy can their schedules be?

I mean for me personally, I work at a bank, alone in our drive thru every day from 745-330-4PM. This page is literally open all day on my desktop. Playing around on the internet is all I have(and even that is limited to no social media sites), we are not allowed to have books, magazine or cell phones. I'm sure there are others who sit at a desk allllll day and only move for lunch and to leave lol...

You have 1200 posts in 2+ years. I don't think you are who the poster was referring to. I think it was more about those folks averaging 750-1000 posts a MONTH. Ya know?

Or it could simply be after 36 years of visits, and getting to see the amazing changes of the Disney Decade, the Iger Era of closures and limitations just reduced the amount of days needed.
Can you really be at Disney too long?

Not saying I agree with the current strategy and I've been highly critical of it. However, Disney knows where their bread is buttered and they've managed to keep many classics and sprinkle in a a few good things.

Maybe tastes are changing on where people vacation at. Everything has its season.

I realize I've been pretty negative lately. I'm kinda disappointed with things to be honest. But I LOVE Disney! We used to go 2-3 times a year (DVC membership, annual passes, cheap airfare and points from the Disney Visa card). I NEVER got tired of it. My family never got tired of it. Even now my teenage kids are asking "Why aren't we going to Disney this year?"

If things were the same now as they were around the mid to late 90s, I would go 3 times in 2017 without hesitation.

Disney needs and deserves to have its own night time parade!!! OMG, Florida is so oppressively humid and hot during the day, so sufficient night time entertainment is crucial. I remember booking a trip to WDW just to see MSEP.

I booked a trip last Christmas just to see Osborne Lights. Disney needs another night time Christmas light show, too. Sorry, but Jingle Bam or Bust or whatever just doesn't cut it for me

And, I just LOVE FP+ -- it is a million times better than legacy FP+. I don't have to criss cross the parks like a maniac just for FP's that ran out before noon anyway.

Anyway, I love this forum so much. It is totally the best!!!!

I'm always curious when I read something like this. Have you been to WDW before FP ever existed? If so- do you want to return to that time--but now with thousands more people than there was back then?

I think the crowds will exceed HP for sure. I donor underestimate the level of obsession with Star Wars nerds...and fans.lol

I remember the days before FP. Nothing beats standing in line for an hour in the blistering August sun waiting to ride Space Mountain. We didn't return for 14 years....

I wouldn't go back to pre-FP days, period. Can you imagine what ride queues without FP would be like with today's crowds? *shudders in horror*

Getting back to WDW attendance (and not wdwmagic attendance)....

Universal is probably a factor. I know we no longer do pure Disney trips like we did 10 years ago, now we also hit Universal for about half the time we are doing parks.

I think that once Diagon Alley opened in 2014, split stays became the trend and by now, it could be the norm. 2015 TEA/AECOM report for 2014-15 says that MK attendance growth was 6% vs. UO Studios at 16%. I'm curious what the next report will show (given the challenges of the past year, too).

Did you not enjoy Universal 10 years or ago? Or just no interest in going there at that time?

Not that I don't see the validity in the misery of standing in the August sun, but Space Mountain is a poor example as the queue is indoors aside from the tail end during an abysmally long wait.

A better example would have been the original Dumbo with an uncovered queue in a sea of concrete and a pathetically slow moving line. I'm starting to sweat just from the memories.

We used to go twice a year, winter and summer.

Then they installed those AC sensors.

2015 seems to be when they went full-scale. The Universal hotels did too. And we found that the overrides and stupid balloon tricks don't work anymore.

On our last summer trip, I brought a thermometer. It was 78 and the thermostat was reading 72. Hmm

If you going to operate resorts in Central Florida, you have to have proper air-conditioning in the rooms or I will not go to your resort anymore

Yea, it was just awful. That's would be why we all became Disneyphiles and want back year after year. Misery, pain and torture. Just awful.

You get three fastpasses up front now, what happens with the rest of the rides? Do you not realize that your few minutes gained in the FP line that you managed to get, was made up for three fold in the lines that you didn't have a FP for? You gained nothing except the euphoric feeling when you happened to have the almighty FP in your magic band and you think that the rest of your experience was what we used to experience. Not even close. We didn't experience the frustration and anger that is prevalent now. I never saw that attitude until my first trip back after FP was initiated. Yes, we had to exercise patience on occasion, but, anger didn't enter into it. Now that is all you feel. It wasn't until after FP came in that I started to lose interest in the place or, at least, had it decline massively.
