Attendance down −4.7%

So the latest TEA park numbers are out and both parks in Paris have seen attendance fall by 4.7%.

Thoughts on this? Anything they can do to stop this rather alarming trend downwards?

Studios is Disney's worst performing park around the world with only 4.2 million visitors, and despite the addition of Ratatouille it hasn't stopped the downward spiral.

That's odd, I was there last year and it was the busiest I've ever seen it, a shame but this gives the resort more reason to expand and build new rides to bring in more people for the upcoming 25th Anniversary,

I almost wonder if the new ride maybe kept the park from seeing worse numbers? It didn't bring them out of the hole obviously, but the numbers would have probably been WAY worse if the new expansion hadn't opened. After a few more key investments into the park they may finally see a turnaround.

Takes time to fix a mess like WDSP.

Does anyone not see the obvious flaw in building a Paris land (Ratatouille) in Paris ?
It's no different than having California Adventure in California, the America pavilion in World Showcase, Main Street USA in the American parks etc

People in France complained Disneyland was too American so adding the Ratatouille ride, Hunchback to Disney Dreams and only being able to meet all three Aristocats at DLP gives it that unique Frenchness to the park to appease this.

When exactly are these numbers for? I heard that they only go through September 2014, so they don't demonstrate the full effect of Ratatouille. Next year's might be a better indication.

They go from January 2014 to December 2014. Ratatouille opened in July.

I suspected a drop in Disneyland Parc numbers due to their first-click methodology that would not count guests who go to WDSP first and then Disneyland as Disneyland visitors, but for WDSP to see any drop is strange, or perhaps an error in their report (since they both have the exact same 4.7% drop).

With all of 2015 having Rat in addition to Frozen Summer Fun, I doubt attendance will continue to decline.

The ride is cool, but the land is a little different then say the American Adventure at Epcot. For one thing the American Pavilion at Epcot represents a time of America long past that is represented through a AA show. The new expansion at WDSP is France, but not some other time in France. The land is the modern France that is right outside the park, the only difference being the buildings are nicer and a little more whimsical. The ride is great, but its sorta hard to compare the land to American Adventure.

Ah okay. For the life of me I can't remember whose Tweet it was, but I read that the numbers are for DLP's fiscal year, which ends Sep. 30.

Main Street - is not what most Americans have experienced.. nor is it right down the road from MK
American Pavilion - is again.. not what most Americans have experienced... Its designed after a site in Phillidelphia.. again.. not right down the road from MK
DCA - Widely panned and criticized as a bad choice... but at least it had many aspects of Cali.. many of which were no where near DCA...

Now rethink the question about paris in WDS vs the paris (you can still visit) < 50km away.

No one goes to the Ratatouille area of WDS to look at the buildings in detail, people go there to ride the ride or eat in the restaurant. I don't see why it even matters.

You pretty much tried to invalid every idea of 'theming' that Disney built itself on. Bravo...

"Just ignore that.. I'm here for the rides".

Lol, I should have been clearer. Ratatouille the film is set in Paris, the Ratatouille area is themed to Paris as a result. Just because the theme park is located in Paris itself is somewhat irrelevant.

Every American I personally know who's visited DLP says it's not French enough. This helps solve that problem. Personally, I think the area is charming as an idealized version of Paris. Definitely not a replica of the actual city, as there are no pickpocket gangs or homeless people asking for money.

The irony is Ratatouile would have been perfect for an American theme park, and some of the DCA theming perfect for Paris.

I think too many people are putting complete trust in the TEA numbers.

I personally wonder just how much it would take to get WDSP into the 7-8 million guests range. I don't see why if they put in a few more headlining attractions why this park couldn't jump up there.

With more worthy additions I don't doubt for a second that they can reverse the damage. These numbers just show that a lackluster kiddie land and one immersive land isn't enough to undo the damage to the park. (I guess damage isn't the word as the park was never great to start with) If the rumors being thrown around are true then I can see both parks, not just WDSP, making a turnaround.

And what are those rumors exactly? All I have seen are aggressive refurbishment schedules for Disneyland Paris itself. Which, don't get me wrong, is awesome, but I don't see how it will contribute to a bump in attendance.

Now, if Disneyland gets star wars land and DSP gets some placemaking and another headliner, that could work.

I personally don't have inside information as I am not connected to anybody like that, but I believe Spirit just mentioned a few nights ago about the Spider-Man coaster planned for RRC, and the Studio Tram tour is confirmed to receive new props and special effects throughout. Other then that I would simply assume they have more planned, but I could be wrong.
