My (rather long-winded) 2 cc:
Spider-Man: no major misfires in my judgment--the film didn't try to re-invent the wheel, just handled the character the way he was meant to be and got most, if not all, of it right. It wasn't Shakespeare, but it wasn't meant to be. A VERY solid film that old and new fans alike can enjoy--I've seen it twice, and still wouldn't mind going again. The only legitimate complaints I've heard so far were that the soundtrack was lacking (true) and that the Goblin just wasn't that great a bad guy (that one's debatable; I thought Defoe was solid in the Osborne role--the Goblin character was a bit limited behind all that armor, but it didn't detract from the film, for me.) If they can find someone to put together a real soundtrack next time (Elfman had Batman pegged, but was only so-so on this picture), then the sequel (which is a must-see for me) could be even better (though only if the focus stays on Peter Parker and the film doesn't turn into a big-screen Power Rangers knockoff).
Episode II: Well, it's another Star Wars flick, and not a bad one, but I don't think it's as good as Spider-Man (and I don't think it'll bring in the same numbers). This was definitely better than Episode I, and Natalie Portman in that little white top--HELLO!! (You guys know what I'm talkin' about.

) However: the teenage Anakin just degenerates into a big whiner for seemingly no reason in more than one spot (does somebody need a nap??) and the story just doesn't have that much "oomph" to it. I know that the big battlescene between the droids and the clones was supposed to be really thrilling but--well--it wasn't. A decent flick with some pretty pictures and John Williams' always kick- score, but not quite filling. I'll probably go see it again (just 'cuz my Mom needs someone to go with her), but this one falls short of "great" status for me.
OK, I'm done now...
