Atlantis @ MGM Studios

On a trip to WDW this week I noticed an Atlantis at MGM studios sign.

It was in the props section on the right hand side as you drive through the costuming and props area on the backlot tour.

Has anyone else seen it or know what if anything is planned?

they were props from the old Atlantis Meet & Greet location in the Animation Courtyard. There are no plans to make ANY Atlantis attraction anywhere.

Perhaps because Atlantis sucked?

America didn't...

I'll bet you $100, that if it hadn't been marketed as Disney, but rather Miramax or Touchstone, it would've done well...

I have to agree with you on this one. Atlantis, like Treasure Planet, got horrible marketing. Although, I still don't feel that Atlantis is a good Disney movie. (Treasure Planet on the other hand, doesn't get the credit and "money" that it deserves)

But America must've liked it enough...the sequel should be out soon (straight to DisneyDVD though)

I have to agree as well. The marketing campaigns for both Atlantis and Treasure Planet were horrid!! It was like Disney WANTED those movies to fail.

And yeah... TP was a far better flick than Atlantis, but didn't pass $30 million in the box office.... something smells fishy in Burbank!

Of course, lest we forget that Disney will surely make it's money back AND THEN SOME once TP hits video stores worldwide... not to mention movie theatres overseas.

I don't know, however, I think it seemed more like a Dreamworks movie rather than a Disney Classic.

How many cartoons has Miramax and Touchstone put out? Roger Rabbit is one right? (I'm simply curious)

An Atlantis attraction? Don't see that. It was the first Disney movie I can remember thinking "it was ok, but I liked "The Black Cauldron" better". :lookaroun

I think that's it... albeit Roger Rabbit was a collaborative effort with Warner Bros., Amblin, and a bunch more

I'd say mostly with Amblin...but we digress :)

I liked Atlantis. I guess I dont really see why these animated movies have to fit the traditional form to be considered a "Classic"... Movies like Atlantis or Emporers New Groove are really fun, and hopefully will be the molds for some Disney movies to come. They already seem to be the molds for their new releases
