Al has a great update this morning. News on WoC, TLM, and Paradise Pier!

Al says the Maliboomer will be dismantled and removed by the end of this year. Another major change coming to PP - a brand new music loop to fit into the early Victorian theme of the pier.

By May the speakers all around the Paradise Pier lagoon will begin playing the new area music for that section of DCA. Gone will be the organ-grinder versions of 1960’s pop music, and in will be a toe-tapping medley of West Coast Ragtime. The new music is said to be jazzier than the early ragtime music played on Main Street USA, as the new Pier theme evokes the growing West Coast of the 1910’s and 20’s rather than the more conservative Midwest of 1905 that Main Street represents.

Looking forward to the new music, but I'll really miss the fun calliope songs they have now :( one of the best background music loops, imo.

- Blue Sky Cellar will be updated after World of Color opens and it will focus on The Little Mermaid attraction.
- World of Color testing has been right on schedule, no major delays at this point.
- Captain EO Tribute has been a big success!

Discuss! :)

Wait, Maliboomer is leaving? Boo. :(

I'm glad PP is getting new BGM. I really don't like the current one. It's my least favorite.

The new PP music sounds great! I'm a sucker for vintage jazz/ragtime. :sohappy:

Maliboomer leaving isnt something I'd heard before. That sounds like a scoop. If it's true, I'm not going to be too sad. It's a fun ride, but it really seems out of place in a Disney park IMO. It adds to the generic carnival feel of the area.

Yep, according to Al the ride will be dismantled and removed by the end of this year. Remember they're going for a specific time period here, with the entire pier being converted to an early Victorian, turn-of-the-century seaside boardwalk.

As a Space Shot attraction, Maliboomer is the only ride that doesn't seem to fit within this time period. Screamin mimics the design of an early wooden coaster, MFW is a replica of the Coney Island original, etc. And you also have the new music loop coming in, Paradise Park and Garden, Silly Symphony Swings. All part of the plan to convert the area into a SoCal pier of yesteryear.. :)

One reason for removing it is it doesn't fit.. another reason Tower of terror provides a similar experience and has a theme and such to provide it. I always thought it was strange they kept maliboomer while they built TOT as they provide similar sensations during the drop profiles... one is themed, the other you could find at knotts berry farm or magic mountain. (not sure about that last one though)

To me, ToT and Maliboomer are two different rides.

Maliboomer is a real eye sore and doesn't fit at all, I agree there. I just love the ride and am going to miss it. Like BJ said, the only thing I've heard about it was theming it to Toy Story a while back. Other than that no one has said anything.

Maliboomer was originally going to be modeled after giant palm trees (as shown in the original concept art for DCA.) Then when the expansion was approved, the plan was to convert it into a drop parachute ride.. then that plan was scrapped. It would have been similar to the Parachute Jump ride at Coney Island

I guess they ultimately decided it was better to just get rid of it altogether.

For those not familiar with the park, this is what the current background music sounds like at the pier. a short snippet of the hour-long loop, featuring CA based songs done with the calliope music style.

according to Al, the new music should sound similar to what you hear in this video. he says it will be "jazzier than the early ragtime music played on Main Street USA" and will evoke the early West coast feel of the 1910's and 20s.

I would expect something similar, maybe with a bit more seaside flair.. should sound great! this will really help reinforce the new theme of the pier.

Looks like the new music came earlier than expected! From MintCrocodile's Twitter:

It seems that the rag time music has taken over the pier

I guess they want to have the music ready for Paradise Park's opening tomorrow

Maliboomer update.. Although it is still listed as an attraction, the Maliboomer has been removed from the official online park map. I guess this is confirmation that the ride is indeed on its way out..?

The original Paradise Pier area music is gone -- no more calliope-style Beach Boys songs.. In its place is a brand new music loop that debuted today. I haven't heard it myself yet, but I'm told it's different from the Paradise Park music loop that was added earlier this year.

MintCrocodile: Today new style of Paradise Pier music encompasses between California Screamin' & Maliboomer. King Triton Carousel recieved new organ music.
