Does anyone else have any traditions to share

Basically - just get there :p. I travel a lot for business so usually my routine leading up to the first day is to come home from business trip, unpack one suitcase, repack it as part of luggage to Disney, leave for Disney and just get there and relax. First full day we ease into the vacation by doing some WMT and other shopping (we have a rental car) to get some snacks and stuff. Second full day is when we get into full-blown parks mode.

We typically take an early morning flight and are arriving at our WDW resort by mid-morning. As much as I like the idea of lingering, we're always too excited to do anything but rush off to the Magic Kingdom! We take a few minutes to unpack (assuming the room is ready -- we travel "carryon only" so we don't have to wait for luggage delivery) and freshen up, and then we're off! Magic Kingdom is always the park we visit on our arrival day, because I don't think our arrival feels legitimate to us until we've strolled up Main Street and beheld Cinderella Castle.

Out of habit, our touring always begins in Adventureland and Frontierland, and wraps around to Liberty Square. As a result, we always start with Swiss Family Treehouse since it's the first attraction we come to. (I also like that this means we start with some of the least exciting attractions, and build gradually to some of the more exciting ones, finishing out the night with Big Thunder Mountain and the Haunted Mansion.) It's also a nice, relaxing attraction to enjoy as I take my first deep breaths of Disney air, survey the park from the treetop, discard the worry and stress of the journey, and settle into my nothing-can-stress-me-now vacation mindset.

We are also up at "the crack of stupid" to catch the first flight down. As soon as we check in (at the Contemporary for the BLT), we drop off whatever we don't want to carry and walk 5 min to the Magic Kingdom. By 11am we're sitting in the middle of Tomorrowland at the Lunching Pad, having a hot dog, looking around and smiling...

Can you see a lot of the park from the tree to?

I recommend you walk out the back of POP and go over the bridge and check out Art of Animation and make it an early evening. Getting to the parks early will really help you be able to ride everything you want without long lines.

You mostly see Adventureland, although other higher things like BTMRR, Space Mountain and the Castle are visible, too, through the branches. It's really a lovely view (and a great way to survey the park and get the "lay of the land").

For example, here's a pic from elsewhere on this site (wdwmagic) of the view toward the Castle/Tomorrowland from the treehouse:

And another, looking toward the Enchanted Tiki Room (again, from wdwmagic):

We arrive between 2 and 4. We don't have annual passes so we head to Downtown Disney to Earl of Sandwich then walk over to DisneyQuest.

Then head over to Art of Animation like someone previously suggested. This way you get a yummy meal, some Disney magic, and none of the time eating woes of the transportation. That way you can still get up early and hit the parks!

Art of Animation has, for my money, one of the best quick service spots in all of WDW. Also, you MIGHT catch one of the AoA "flash mobs".

We need time for things to happen.
Our first day usually involves getting from MCO to the parks as soon as possible all the while avoiding a high speed chase with local authorities ( not always successful). If we don't end up in jail we are usually in the MK by 11:00 tearing up one of our favorite attractions. If we do end up in jail we can still make the parks by dinner (as I always set aside extra cash for bail), except that one year I jumped from my car yelling at the cops, "i gotta go there is a magical mouse that needs my money!".

A side note: the Kissimmee PD is a little too liberal with their use of tasers.

I agree. I love their saag paneer. Tell me more about these flash mobs I'm not privy to them.

Here's a look.

Now, when I saw it, it wasn't nearly this large- a handful of cast members and whatever youngsters were brave enough to dance with them.
