As far as I know it is a demomstration... Sort of like Backdraft is at Universal Studios Hollywood. They have a preshow.. or 2 (I've never been but have a friend who told me about it a few times) and then they take you into the chaimber and demonstrait the destruction of the russian space station in a controled environment like they were going to shoot it for the film Armegedon.

I may be wrong but I know it is defenently not a ride more of an Demonstration.

I would agree with that - not a ride but not a show either. It's more of a walk through attraction with effects.

And a very good (and clever) one!

**SPOILER**

After a preshow video (with live CM) you are taken to the `set` of the Russian space station from the movie. It`s a large, dimly lit round room with pipes in the ceiling, banks of computers on the walls, view screens, airlock doors, and the core in the center (large hole in floor)

All is well, you can gaze into space through the view screens, and the narration is by the Russian cosomonaut (english) and the computer (french). Meteors are picked up on radar, they hit the station, and all hell breaks loose.

Over the next few minutes, steam shoots out the floor, walls and ceiling. Pipes fall from the ceiling, bits of wall `blow` out, and fireballs erupt in one of the airlocks. The other airlock gives way, and all the smoke in the room actually gets sucked out the opening into space (a very clever and windy effect). The airlock is closed, but more meteors hit, the ceiling collapses and finally the central core blows, shooting very hot fireballs into the middle of the room mere feet from guests. As a finale the lights go out and the whole floor drops a few inches suddenly.

Wow, thanks for the spoiler.

As ridicolous as this sounds, we went for our first time to DLRP and I went in the preshow and then changed my mind but now I know what happens I think I actually might go on it in September 2009.

I believe it was considered but got no further. Strange when you think it`d easily fit into a soundstage or other small building. There are a lot of safety issues - propane gas storage, airpressure and vacum pumps - pertaining to location but even so.

The only thing to remember if you have a 6 year old is - it's extremely noisy, crowded and dark. Kids crying everytime we've been. :)
