The problem as I see it is that nothing a Disney is much more jarring then things pregnant women encounter on a regular basis in everyday life. There are some rides, at other places that indeed might be and of course any actual direct hit to the abdomen can cause what you are suggesting. Amniotic fluid is there for a reason and that is to cushion and protect the unborn from direct trauma. It is a block and a shock absorber.

Moot point actually, since we don't know what happen, many things can and do happen during a pregnancy that cause fluctuations in blood pressure. Also some previously unknown preexisting condition can show up during that time as well. So whatever the situation was it is a shame and so sad if it did end up as a fatality. If so, no matter the reason, it is a tragic thing to happen anywhere, not just at Disney.

yes, all the why's and how's don't matter, all that matters' is two lives were possibly lost, and there is a devestated family in need of our love and prayers. Blame does no good.

The whys and don'ts do matter. If we understand why, we could potentially prevent it from happening in the future.
But none of us are doctors and even if some are we can not prevent a freak thing like a seizure, my heart just aches for her family, especially since my husband died from a grand mal seizure (totally unpreventible it was the first grand mal seizure he had ever had all the others had been like a temporary space out).

I'm very sorry for your loss. That's tragic and I can't begin to imagine what you've endured.

Assuming she suffered a random seizure and passed from that, then yes I totally agree with you.

I know a CM who knows the family. She was 33wks pregnant and diabetic. Had nothing to do with a ride or whether she listened or didn't listen. She went into a diabetic shock which can be very common during pregnancy if you have gestational diabetes. The ONLY reason the RN that tried to save her life worked on her for so long is because it took EMS quite some time to get there, and you dont let someone just lay there to die. Same thing with the EMS, they have to do a minimum time of life saving procedures and follow protocol to do everything they can to save someone, which I'm pretty sure they did in this situation, especially since she was pregnant. No oxygen to mom= no oxygen to baby. By the time they got her to the hospital she had passed. They attempted to take the baby but the baby did not make it. It's an awful situation for all involved. Disney is probably not saying much because this is something Disney directly had nothing to do with. It was a fluke, very unfortunate situation and I'm sure they are doing everything they can to console the family during this time. After all, its supposed to be the most magical place on earth, but something unthinkable took place. Can't imagine that it's easy to swallow for anyone involved.

I bet this will at least spur some changes going forward in how things can be responded to and that, in and of itself, can be a positive thing to come from something so terrible. Animal Kingdom is definitely off the beaten path and probably is the absolute worst place in Disneyworld to have an incident like this take place. I know from very personal experience that Disney acts quickly to medical situations. When my little boy was 9 months old a waiter at the Castle set a huge pot of fresh coffee in front of my little boy without even thinking about it and within about a second my little boy reached for it and spilled it all over himself and me. He wound up with second degree burns but within 10 minutes Disney had an ambulance backed up to take him to the hospital at Celebration for treatment. They even had Disney employees in uniform that were actual paramedics and I didn't even know that whole division existed. Disney was great about the whole thing and called for a couple of months consistently to check on him and ask what they could do to make things right but we just kept insisting it was fine and a total accident. So finally they told my wife they were gonna send a check with $2,500 and some papers to sign saying that we felt it was totally resolved and that was it. When we got back from the hospital I walked back over to the MK from BLT to beg the manager not to fire that poor waiter that set the coffee down. I've always wondered if she did but it was just a total accident and the guy was just sitting on the steps in the restaurant literally shaking and you could tell that he felt genuinely bad but men just don't "think" like women do when it comes to what they do around kids. So I'm sure if Disney kept reaching out to us they will go much more above and beyond in this situation.

Reading about this hit kind of close to home, as I have had a few seizures over the last 6 months, the first ones I have ever had. The ones I have had have been just after I fell asleep, so I couldn't imagine having one as you are fully awake, walking through WDW, and then to have the result it did-devastating. I hope the family can eventually recover from this.

Animal kingdom is in a far corner of WDW but that has no effect on response times. AK just like the other parks has mobile medics positioned in the park at all times. Obviously they can be tied up with one call when another comes through. RCFD has multiple stations strategically positioned across the property. The one closest to dak is on Osceola parkway near the McDonalds. You are really no further from first responders at DAK than any other park.

This is the most irritating Disney myth out there IMO, and it's so pervasive. The most "off the beaten path" location at Walt Disney World is Magic Kingdom. Animal Kingdom is "off the beaten path" if you have it in your mind that the Magic Kingdom is somehow centralized on property, but it isn't. It's as far from everything as you can get, especially when you consider the impact of one-way roads. Very roughly speaking:

This story completely gutted me. Yes, I am sure tragedies happen all the time here and aren't so public but the all the circumstances put together just makes is so heartbreaking. I cannot imagine the heartache frome something like that happening to your family. Having gone through a health scare recently myself, it really shows how precious life really is.

I was actually talking to a monorail operator about this the other day and he said that AK isn't as far as people think either. I'm used to being at BLT all the time and that definitely makes AK seem a lot farther for me. He was actually saying that they've been doing some surveying and he wouldn't be surprised if it ever happened that EPCOT became the central hub of all Disneyworld because it's in almost equal proximity to everything.
