Curious as ever.Never been to the flagship of Disneys resort the one & only GF. But friends who have just returned had a awesome meal there, and decided to look around.Their views were interesting to say the least.Yes it's awesome, creme de la creme, like five stars plus more, but they said it felt like they wer'nt at a WDW resort. The theming of other resorts were more,Disney esk so to speak. What are your opinions of the GF.?

On his first trip to WDW with our son we toured different resorts and I asked my then 5 year old what he saw. He told me the Contemporary reminded him of Star Wars, The Yacht Club of his grandmother’s cottage on Cape Cod, the Animal Kingdom Lodge of a big hut in Africa, the Wilderness Lodge of a big log cabin and the Polynesian of an island. When I asked what the Grand Floridian reminded him of he said “rich people.” He still says that.

In my opinion, the GF has the best Disney theme going! I like the suddle hints of Disney woven into the theming and how it's not in your face so to speak. Perhaps this is because the GF is my all time favorite resort and reminds me of my first times to Disney.

I'll give you my best explination...

First off I think "stuffy" is another way of saying "rich" our out of my price range.
So with that being said.. automatically I'm going to feel a bit out of my element because I can't afford to stay at Deluxes on a regular basis..where a good portion of the people staying there can.
I MAY feel a bit out of my element and therefore I may say the place is a bit "stuffy"

By why does GF get the "stuffy" label and not the Poly or the WL (or CR for that matter)?

Although GF, WL and Poly are all Deluxe resorts and in the relatively same price range (with the GF I'm almost certain being the highest priced of the lot by a bit). The theme of Wilderness Lodge is that Log Cabin thing..
I can relate with that...I'm in the woods in a cabin yeah I can do that...
The Poly? Lua, Tiki Torches I can relate with that.

The GRAND Floridian? Well that' just...."grand" You know I'm expecting a game of polo to break out on the lawn at any moment.

So although I can't afford the Poly or WL on a regular basis...If I do -- I can feel comfortable happily pretending to be Woodsy or outdoorsy type or Hanging loose and drinking alcholol out of pinapple at a luau...but I never feel comfortable prentending to be "grand"..... even for a little while.

Again that's just my opinion. More power to those who can afford it and feel comfortable in this envoirnment. It just ain't for me.

Even if I suddenly found myself in a financial position to afford the GF I wouldn't stay there.
Besides I look horrible in polo shirts. ;)

PS - Also isn't the GF the only place where you have to either get Valet or park across the street???
That's "stuffy" city.
Forget the polo shirts, have you seen the price of dinner jackets nowadays, unless Wall Mart do them.

I'm not lying to you..Walmart DOES do dinner jackets..I was there picking up a pack of 'vacation' socks and was amazed to see a rack of jackets and slacks....how ever I'm certain that the maitre' d at Victoria and Albert's might sniff that out and send you packing...;)

Your probably right, knowing my luck.I was thinking of trying lunch at the Floridian cafe on my next trip, just to check the resort out,but now thinking I'll have to get the pony tail chopped off. There goes my old hippy cowboy look out the window,or worse,on the barbers floor.

It's funny- I LOVE the common areas of the GF...especially all of the Disney characters in the floors and the over-all feel of the lobby, but the room decor is about as far from my tastes as humanly possible. For that reason- I still can't justify paying the $ to stay there. Still- just the fact that the lobby floor is loaded with Disney characters and many other Disney details throughout (love the Mary Poppins topiary outside of 1900PF) - I think the Disney feel is there...well, at least it is for me.

I think you have to determine what a Disney Theme is. Do you mean characters and Mickey or just a fully integrated and complete immersion into another place and time. If it is the latter, then yes, GF is a Disney Themed Resort. We have stayed there 3 times. And we like the full immersion into another place and time. You literally feel like you are pulled back into another time. Its a Victorian theme so it might not seem like an obvious theme - like Polyansian or Port Orleans. But I think that yes, GF is amazing with all its grandeur!

I think that GF is a beautiful hotel but it doesn't scream "Disney" to me. The Contemporary does but that is because of so many iconic phots of the CR with the monorail. Polynesian also proudly feels Disney-esque. WL is just awesome and would be no matter where it is. The GF just doesn't feel that way. We had a dinner there but were unimpressed and wished that we had been able to eat at the WL. So much of this is subjective, though.
