- I don't even wanna know how much a profit they make on the food...
-and then the resorts....

i believe i'm getting your point now! and i'm beginning to agree! tis true, Disney really is slashing hours, parades, budgets, etc. right and left...but they've done almost nothing to prices..well, except maybe raise them. now i know that attendance isn't so good, BUT that's all the more reason for Disney to give a little with prices, right? i mean, sure, times are hard for them, but they're hard for all of us! it was getting tough during peace time for us 'regular' folks to go to Disney because of the prices, but it's getting REALLY hard with the ecomony and gas prices the way they are! the least Disney could do is cut us some slack...maybe attendance would actually do a little better then! i wish, for Disney's and our sakes, that this whole thing had an easy solution, but it doesn't appear to be that way. :(

It's all about MARGINS!

Each little Disney entity is run as a separate business. The Managers of that little snack wagon or store or hotel or park each have to turn in the expected marigns Disney Corp. has established for them. (Cost of operating the thing versus how much profit it makes, to keep it simple.)

If Corp. lowers the prices, they will HAVE to sell more to maintain the profit margins they need to stay in operation. If the bottom line isn't there, the point of diminishing returns is reached and it becomes MORE profitable to close down the store, hotel, etc.

With the level of travelers prjected to decrease even more if World troubles get worse, they could never sell "MORE" enough of everything to keep it all profitable.

DON'T SHOOT THE MESSENGER -- I AM JUST TRYING TO EXPLAIN IT!

Hopefully that helped a bit.

Disney Prices are alittle out of wack for somethings but like park tickets and resorts cost they have to be high. You have 4 theme parks worth over 1 billion each and I think 27 resorts to keep track of. Not to mention all the other stuff like DownTown Disney and stuff. I don't think prices are that bad.

Prices are astronomical compared to what they used to be. I remember back in 95 we stayed at Dixie Landings for 4 nights and it amounted to a little over $300 per person tickets included. The Disney online reservation is not working right now, but I would guess that package now would cost over twice as much per person.

People are just having it tough right now. People have lost their jobs, have had their hours cut back, benefits, salary, and combine that with gas prices are so high and it is not as cheap to fly now as it once was.

Plus there are so many vacation options that are much less expensive. It seems that most of the travel industry has realized times are tough and have lowered their pricing to attract business. Disney just has not done this. If anything they have cut service and kept their prices the same.

Maybe I am wrong, but I feel like Disney should get back to what Disney was famous for. Family entertainment and their parks. Outside of their parks and resorts, and their studios, they really need to cut the dead weight. They made a mistake that many companies in the great economy of the 90's made, massive expansion into several interests. Like AOL-Time Warner is failing, this expirement with ABC is failing, and it has dragged the company down with it.

Disney also needs to realize it has a lot more competition out there for the vacationer. Years ago, there was no Universal Studios or Islands of Adventure. Now you have those parks that are a few miles down the road and no doubt it has had an impact on WDW's attendance. These companies are spending money on their parks. Disney needs to do the same to bring people back. I have heard from my brother when I tried to get him to go with me this summer, that he does not want to go because its always the same old thing. That is coming from someone who just a couple of years ago was a bigger Disney lover than I am. I am sure there are many people that feel that way.

WELL SAID JASON...:sohappy:

I don't think the prices are bad...understandable for what Disney has...

BUT....

I can understand why Disney is strugglin...
Like DIznee_phreek said...the economy is doing do poorly...and people can't pay those prices...if we can't pay those prices....we don't go...

Disney makes there money on us...the people who come to their parks.....no people in da parks...no money in da bank...

I don't know how they could solve this problem...like was said...if they cut back..they still don't make a profit...
but I think if they do...they might get peope to come to there resorts...and if thats say a family at CB for $100/night...I think thats just a little better than the empty room for $130...they still make the money...just not as much as was hoped...

But like I said...I don't have a buissiness mind...

We were wondering why Disney is cpmplaining?!?! Well not complaining...but upset over the great loses in there parks...( ok who wouldn't be)
I know that times are tough...and the vacation industry was hit hard...and prices had to increase to make up for loses...but its out of control....
-To stay on property...is at least $77/night...for an AS...(I know disney has other resorts...DTD area...and several others...they just don't have the disney magic)....
-Then to actually get into the parks...its another $300pp more...(it could be cheaper...or could be more)
-Then to actually eat...they whack ya too...+$7.00pp (yeah right) for a cheap meal at the food court...and sometimes $50pp for a fancy adult meal...
-then add on snacks and souviners...

Ok I think you all can see where I'm going with this...ITS HORRIBLE...I don't even know how families of 4 and more can do it...It ruins the fun...yes...we all could save for a few months and years...which I'm sure most do...but to me Disney is not worth it right now to save all that money for it...
and it seems as of right now...that not many people can do it...or want to do it...hence the low attendence...
but from what I am hearing...the parks are still crowded...and rides still have 30min waits...so what is Disney talking about:veryconfu...

Also...it seems as if people don't feel the need to go back to disney...once you've seen it...its over...and people move on to IOA and SW....(not anyone on this sit though:lol:  )...

...

Here's my two cents:
Prices at WDW have increased at their usual rate. Ever since I've been going the prices creep up every year. However, as their prices go up; my income has gone down. I see and understand your point about families affording the opportunity. As a family of 5, we can't swing it right now. Even when we managed to swing it, each kid got $20.00 to buy whatever they wanted and we only ate on site once a day. Now we can't even think about it. I think alot of people want to branch out, but not too far from home.
I do know alot of people who feel a Disney trip once every 10 years is plenty. I, on the other hand, am sitting here feening.

Its sad...Disney turned into a Corporate giant...and forgot about what Walt wanted...a family vacation destination....
When it cost a family of 4-5...$100 just to have a decent meal...its sickining...
But like I said....Disney's making mistakes...there losing the true customers....people like us...
they're buying companies while we're thinking of other family vacation options...
I'm planning my next vacation...in 2006...WOO HOO!
