are these two years of not worth going?

Usually I stay at Disney 2 weeks every year. This year we are staying at Universal for 1 week and Disney for 9 days. Only doing 7 days in the park vs where we usually go 12 days . Next year we are skipping Disney, but doing a cruise.

How much do you spend on a trip to just Disney now? Because my experience in going to both or just one is that you don't really spend much more going to both than in just going to one because certain costs don't really change... like the rental car or hotel costs... the only real change is the park tickets and then your talking about the difference in buying a 3 day pass to universal with a 4 day pass to Disney vs buying a week long pass to Disney... So 204 for universal 3 day, and 305 for a disney 4 day vs 335 for a 7 day disney means an increase of 174 per adult on a trip... So even a family of four is only going to see maybe a 650-700 increase in the total cost of the trip. And honestly if you look at the prices of hotels at Universal vs Disney you can cover most if not all of that cost difference in some of the cheaper rooms at Universal.

We can afford to do either one, or the other. A couple of hundred dollars is a lot of money if your family is set on a budget. "Only going to see maybe a 650-700 increase".. What is that to you? Nothing?

I'm not sure if you realize this or not, but it's a bit rude to be calling out other posters for the amount of money that they may or may not be spending on their vacations... not to mention a bit tacky to be crying poor in this discussion, as it's really not relevant. Why would you be shocked to find out that a forum full of people talking about Disney World 24/7 are able to afford Orlando/Disney vacations?

When did I call anyone out without someone calling me out first? Plus I didn't say I was poor. I was implying that if you're on a budget, like most low/mid class families are, then going to both parks really isn't an option. That is perfectly relevant. There are many of people like myself who love Disney world to death and can talk 24/7 about it as well but can't afford the trips to go as often as you guys. I just didn't realize that a majority of the forum members on here can afford many trips.

Like really. I'm not trying to make a big deal about it.

Did twelve days at Disney two of which we park hopped to Uni. Socioeconomic status is irrelevant to the conversation. If you can't afford one day why should someone else feel bad if they can.

Last response I'm doing then I'm just ignoring the notifications. I'm simply responding to people saying that going to BOTH universal and Disney IS quite a big expense. At least it is for me. And I'm sure I'm not the only one. I'm pointing out that it really isn't worth all of the extra hundreds of dollars to go to both universal and Disney. In my opinion.

To be honest... yeah it pretty much isn't an amount I would worry about.

But, if I didn't want to see any increase our trips cost I would probably cover it by staying in a cheaper hotel... Going from a Deluxe to Moderate, a Moderate to a value, or a Value to an off-site - any of those swaps would cover it if you make week long trips.

But hey we all have budgets we live within... and if you want to do trips that push you to the limit that's your call... My personal choice is to never take a trip that pushes me to the limit because things can always go wrong in life and I don't want to live that close to the edge.

It's not stopping us from going. I've been on Soarin more than once, and I'm not upset that it won't be open when I'm there. There is so much to do in Disney, that we can always find something. We just went in September and are going back in April, and could probably not get on anything we did on our last trip and still have plenty to do.

There was a good bit of construction in AK & Disney Springs, but it didn't bother us.

with the massive amounts of closures through out all the parks , let me ask the question.. is it worth going each of the next two plus years? No Soarin, no Toy story, in fact DHS is going to be a shell of its self.. Avatar isn't open.. no river of lights as of yet.. Star Wars and Toy story land could be up to 3 years away... is it worth giving Disney your money the next 2 years.. You save and save, or at least we do.. I can't tell you how many times, I was told, No , that money is for our Disney trip, this past year.. and there was and still are no complaints.. it was a great trip.. but looking at what is open next year and the year after, how do you say, " I am getting my money's worth".. ( I HAVE ALWAYS GOTTEN MY MONEYS WORTH, do not get me wrong..).. but there is just a lot of new or hopefully new construction and not enough fillin's especially for next year.. Comments? discussion.. just good ideas.. please , and no personal ripping.. this is just asking and food for thought.. so to speak..

Its a personal choice.

Me? If you take my AP admissions, I've probably spent at least a year of my life inside the Walt Disney World resort since 2004. I'm choosing to take a break for two reasons: Money (Its outrageously expensive) and the sheer unadulterated lack of any progress when it comes to actually opening anything new since Everest. There's nothing new that appeals to me, so I see no reason to go until Star Wars Land opens.

I'd rather spend my money elsewhere.

Your mileage may vary....

Well, Disney published this short list for 2016:
New Star Wars Experiences will Debut
Light Up The Night With “Rivers of Light” at Disney’s Animal Kingdom
Dine at Tiffin’s at Disney’s Animal Kingdom
Explore Kilimanjaro Safaris at Night
Experience Frozen Ever After at Epcot
New Frozen Character Greeting Location at Epcot
Soarin’ Around The World at Epcot
New Jungle Navigation Co., Ltd. Skipper Canteen at Magic Kingdom Park
New Dining Offerings at Disney Springs
New Shopping at Disney Springs
Celebrate The Invictus Games at ESPN Wide World of Sports
Club Villain at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Of course, there are the normal Flower&Garden and Food&Wine festivals, concerts, and so much more all the time. We go multiple times every year, and see no reason to take a break. There is always something new for us to experience, even after so many trips. If your previous trips had value for you, then so will future trips taken before Avatar, SWL, or TSL open. Just sayin'.

I'm spending most of next month at WDW. So my answer to your question would be, nope, not going to stop me. What will slow down our frequent visits will be convenience (no longer living in Florida 4 hours away) or going to that big park in the sky.

Remember when Disneyland (an entire park) was built in a year? Now the same company takes anywhere from 2-5 years building a single attraction.

How's that for "progress?"

If you have certain attractions that you love that you are concerned will be closed and you want lots of "big" new experiences during your next trip, then you probably should wait another year or two and save your money for a blow out trip. Of course, it is a personal choice and that is just my advice.

What are you? A millionaire? Thats really a lot of money. There is no way my family would be able to afford going to both Universal and Disney in one trip.

We did that on our last trip. It did add more to the cost, but in all honesty it is a lot cheaper than going to Disney. There are lots of cheap hotels nearby that offer shuttles, but my main thing was that it was pure exhaustion to do both. Too much amusement! Plus, it was kind of a hassle. We did Univ first (so no Magical Express, we had to rent a car). Then we had to pack again when we checked out to go to Disney and get a taxi to get there. We did enjoy Univeral/IOA, but I won't do both again. It would have to be separate vacations for me.

I would never go to Florida and not go to all the parks (Busch, Uni and Dis).

But then coming from the UK we are spending £600 ($900) on flights each which means the £150 ($200) or thereabouts on tickets for Uni and the £95 ($150) on SW/BGT tickets isn't that bad compared to the overall cost.

Only $900 to get from the UK to the US? I've priced going from Texas to London (and various other cities in Europe) and it's about $1,400!! Why is it so much more for us to go there? And, I just paid more attention to the US $ vs £... that's not good either. I went to Germany about 12 years ago and the $ was almost equal to the Euro. Wow...

Soarin and toy story is still open. Avatar is supposed to open early next year. Is this still correct?

They do still have lots of new shops and restaurants, there is also the dwarves coaster and night show at animal kingdom. And I guess I have to say the cockamany idea of Frozen ride.

I agree with @Corey P. The issue for me isn't construction walls. As a matter of fact, my issue is the lack of construction walls over the last decade. There is just nothing down there that I am willing to pay that kind of money for. WDW is too crowded, stale, and expensive for the Groundhog Day experience they are serving up.

Fortunately, others in the market are building stuff that I am more excited about. I'll rank my excitement level for the 2016 additions.

1. Skull Island: Reign of Kong
2. Mako
3. Hulk 2.0
4. Cobra's Curse
5. Rivers of Light
6. Soarin' 2.0
7. Frozenstrom
8. Night Safari
