April projection...

One of the more popular bloggers I follow (but won't mention because I feel like there are rules about that) has April of next year listed as #9 for months to visit. So now I'm rethinking (possibly overthinking???) our April dates. We were originally scheduled for May but the kids have end of the year testing then and I didn't want to run the risk of a testing falling on our dates and having to switch or cancel. I know it's probably impossible to try and predict anything for next year but what are y'alls thoughts?

What does #9 mean?

Crowd projections are going to be of negligible value right now.

Generally, I expect that trends might follow previous years. For example, Christmas at WDW will be a bit busier than it is now, but what that will look like is a total mystery. WDW has not reached the current capacity limits, so we don't know what a "busy" WDW will look like.

Weve done both April & May before. Both months have their good points, we have preferred May due to a slightly past better crowd situation. ( We are going in May ) But no one can tell what next year will bring due to the unknown nature of the virus going forward, peoples traveling comfort, financial situation and even Disneys offers to try rebuilding guest reservations. If the deal is hinged on your kids testing, I'd do whats best for their situation. Youll have plenty of other years to go as they grow up. We sacrificed trip times for our DS during his school years and it was worth it. Do whats best for them, not yourself. Thats what good parents do.

Oh absolutely. That's why we switched to April. May just is to iffy with testing.

My mom and I are looking at end of April or mid-May (our family trip to Ft. Wilderness is going to be postponed--totally forgot we promised relatives we would do Disneyland with them next summer, assuming it reopens by then 🤞🏻). Hoping to make this a great trip for my mom since she'll finally have retired from nursing after 45 years!!

That's an amazing accomplishment!!! She definitely deserves it!! And Ft.Wilderness is pretty much the only place we stay for trips longer than a couple of nights. Assuming you mean the campgrounds and not the lodge. Although the lodge is one of my favorites to visit.

After working in ER with COVID this year, we plan to SPLURGE! Plus, DH won't be there to make me feel guilty!! LOL
No, we were definitely supposed to do the campground, which has been on my bucket list, especially so ever since we bought our airstream last year (I have a dream of doing FW and then going to some FL state parks along the pan handle beaches and to Keys)!

You will absolutely love it there. It is such a nice break from the hustle and bustle or everything else. It definitely still has it's Disney charm but in a less obvious way. It is my happy place (much to MY dh distain I think... sometimes lol). We live on the beach (well..15 minutes off of it I should say) so that's my normal happy place. But Ft.Wilderness is my other, not so every day happy place.

We have an April tripped planned as well...like we had this year too that didn’t happen....and we are not holding our breath that even that one will happen...

I keep saying “hopefully April”.....which I’m thinking will morph into “definitely November”

Ive told my husband its DEFINITELY April. The only thing I'm on the fence About is face masks. Does it kind of change the magic of the parks??

well, I haven’t been there since December 2019, so I don’t know how the mask thing is yet. I’m sure it will still be Disney to us, masks or no masks

just have to remember to shimmy it to the side before Eating & drinking and I’ll be good!

I don't think I'll mind much. Especially if crowds are still low. My 6 yr old has autism and even though he wears a Mask now when we are grocery shopping, I'm not sure he will be keen to wearing it that much. Are the parks open to medical exceptions for masks? I'd still make him wear one but if needed a break....

No exceptions. But there are “Relaxation Stations” in each park where you can remove masks (as well as when you are dining.)

Also note that the mask mandate is not just at the parks. Masks must be worn on all Disney transportation, at all resorts (including hallways and outdoor paths) and Disney Springs.

Masks may be removed on pool decks or while in the water. But if you visit the restroom or pool bar, you must put on a mask.

Ok good to know!! As long as he can get a break from it from time to time he will be good.

I didnt think the masks changed anything for us, and we were just there in august. TO us, we made it more magical, but selecting disney themed masks etc. One day i had haunted mansion, another day i had dole whips etc. We made it fun. It was hot, but personally the rest of me was hot far before my face. Were going back in March, masks or no masks.

Switching from May to April was a great choice. I wouldn't worry about any projections from the past since they were based on a different economy and open air travel which may or may not exist in early 2021. Frankly I expect Disney to be more like it was after the last financial meltdown, so I would expect lower crowds for at least another year or two.

That's good to hear. I wore masks for work before all this and I was in the hospital for 8 weeks may-july so if I went anywhere outside of my room, I had to wear a mask which I ended up doing a lot, so I'm pretty used to them. I'm hoping April weather will make them a little more tolerable.
