Apps for Crowd Levels?

Lines uses much more than user submissions. Years of historical data, statistical analysis and projections, as well as their team gathering data multiple times daily. Fictitious wait times should not skew their models as they would show outside of the statistical model as outliers.

While nothing is perfect, Lines was the best that I found on my last trip. Mobile Magic was the worst, especially a few times when it couldn't even recognize what park I was in - which made it worthless.

Their optimized personal touring plans made great suggestions too. I could re-optimize them as the day progressed and I modified my plans. Well worth the $11.

I had lines before. I subscribed one year and then dropped it after it ran out. The wait times were completely inaccurate. That is why I thought that it ran the way all other wait time apps ran, by user submission. I would get to an attraction that it claimed had a 10 minute wait, only to find that it was instead 30+ minutes. I even thought that maybe I was just catching the attractions just as a surge of guests hit it and that was the reason for the difference. But I asked a couple standing outside of ToT (Lines said 10 minute wait) and they said that they have been waiting for their sons to get off the ride and that the ride has been at 30 minutes for a while.

Of all the rides we did on our 6 day trip in March, only 1 event like that happened to us and that was for the Jungle Cruise. All others were within acceptable parameters, if not the same.

Perhaps their system has improved since you last used it.

Well it was in 2007. :) I suppose. Heck, I'm not even above trying the app again. It was just $9. Well, $11 now, but still worth a shot.

I do have Verizon! I am going to have to download it and check it out!

for us mobile magic worked great .... but it will only show you ride times for parks you are in.... you can root your phone and have it lie about its position if your really crazy to know the line times in other parks from the official app. I remember last fall 2011 all of the ride times were dead on. The app did need some work. Realistically it needed a faster processor to run. I have a droid 4 now and it is no issue at all to run this. Battery life is another issue. I was thinking about porting this to work on a motoactv watch it would be pretty neat to wear it on you wrist and be able to check ride times and show times. A bit like james bond. I do love my gadgets.

speaking of apps IF YOU ARE READING THIS DISNEY

1. why cant i put in my reservation number and have everything pulled to my phone?????
2. when i hit the back button i expect i should be taken to the top screen of the app not closed out. It is stupid that i need to press menu then choose home or whatever it is.
3. Why cant theY put gps sync beacons in the park so that my phone does not need to try so hard looking for signal. (I believe some malls use this for acturate mapping, future applications may give you coupons as you walk into certain stores in the malls.
4. make line cues with wireless charging. That way while i am standing there using there high energy app i can charge my phone a bit.
5. Why does this thing need to load maps and stuff all the time. Why cant it be app data that is stored. The only data that needs to be loaded are "times".
6. you should be able to have a virtual fast pass card on your phone to give photographers.
7. why can i earn things for playing the games. Like fast passes, special meet and greets, things that cost no money to the park. (just an idea but could be alot of fun)
8. If characters never appear anymore TAKE THEM OUT OF THE APP

My main issue is that nothing is linked with my reservation. Something that would make life very easy. Especially for dining reservations that way i could get reminders things like that. Maybe even cooler would be that everyone that logs in under the same reservation number can be tracked by the others so you can see your kids location on a actual disney map.

sorry i had a case of verbal diarrhea there hopefully i can find a cure soon

They probably don't want other apps taking the info and using it.

yep you nailed it. funny enough you can cause a device to fake the address. plus many of those other apps are based on other peoples updates. So sometimes you are working for the app. which if you are paying for it is ridiculous

I have a few apps but never use them in the parks. I find that walking the parks and using the fast pass system works just fine. I would never rush over to say Tomorrowland to ride SM from Frontierland because supposedly the wait time is acceptable. I just don't understand that.
And I would never pay for a subscription for wait times. Crazy.

Thank you for the suggestions. I have Mobile Magic and it is somewhat helpful but lines seems great so far. Can't wait to use it in 10 DAYS for our trip :D

Had no idea! Thank you. Why do you have to be in the park to get the actual numbers I wonder?

Another reason why I prefer Magic Guide....gotta love sitting at home on the couch and checking the wait time for Splash Mountain and then frowning when it reminds me that I'm 1700 miles away. :brick:

Yeah, I've had this problem on occasion. But it's as accurate as it gets for wait times. It updates in real time since it is tied into Disney's system. Doesn't require any info to be entered by anyone. The issue with it is whether or not CMs are measuring the wait times accurately. I think they should just get rid of the GPS requirement.

Now that they are putting in Wifi everywhere, (at least I thought I read that somewhere) then they may do away with it and you can pull the data straight from the Wifi severs.
