I called yesterday and I was told that no AP rates will be released untill the week before Christmas. The cast member gave me a date of the 20th of December but, he said that he wasn't certain.

AP discounts are used to fill empty rooms - if rooms are selling well at full or higher than AP discounted rates, they wait until it gets closer (if then) to offer AP discounted rates.

Having an AP does NOT guarantee you discounted room rates.

A/P discounts

My concern is that the General public discount for rooms is 2/16/11, but the A/P discounts for rooms is only up to 12/25/10......That doesn't seem fair to me........Why bother buying the A/P Pass??????

If you're buying the AP for room discounts that haven't been announced yet, then you're buying it for the wrong reason. Disney has never promised or guaranteed resort discounts for AP holders. They never will.

There are two ways that make sense to buy APs in my view:

An AP is cheaper admission than what you would have to buy in regular park tickets to do what you plan to do at WDW over the following 12 months. Renewing the AP only makes sense if your continuing plans also make it cheaper.

Or,

AP discounts for resort rooms at a time that suits you are announced and buying an AP to get those rates makes financial sense. You book the room at the AP rate and buy your AP when you get there.

Buying APs in hope of possibly getting a discounted room if it doesn't otherwise make financial sense is foolhardy.

I'm thinking Disney wants to phase AP's out. Seriously. Discounts are becoming slimmer and slimmer, and getting released later and later. They're not used as a "perk" for us, they're used as bait to get us to fill the rooms.

A/P discounts

I hear you......we have been A/P holders for along time & never had to wait so long for the room discounts to come out....

We understand that park admissions is first on the benefits list, but room discounts should be at least the same dates as the general public dates......for the discounts!!!!

I understand that AP discounts are not guaranteed so I have my room booked with the general discount. I hope that they do release a discount and have been waiting and checking each day this past week for one. It does seem that they are releasing AP discounts later every year. Hopefully we will see something soon! I am waiting to set up my Magical Express until I know for sure which discount I will be using.

Agreed, we only buy 1 if the trip we are taking will benefit from it... that used to happen quit frequently, but the last 2 years we never saw a benefit to the AP, they just never seemed to have the discount available when we need them.

Annual Passes are really only their for the admission purpose. I buy one only because I know that I will get to use it for about 20 admission days per year. The discounts are nice, but clearly they are subject to change at any time. There is never a guarantee of room or any other discount because you have an AP. The same holds true for my DVC membership...I really like the fact that I get to save $100 on my AP, but that could change tomorrow if they so choose. The real reason I bought my DVC was because of the savings I calculated on the room portion of my stay only.

I hate to say this, but I find the lack of surplus benefits attached to AP's to be an encouragement. If Disney doesn't feel the need to attract guests with as many perks, my hope is that business is good, and the American economy is chugging forward with more disposable income. Live in hope for a better future.

AP discounts are offered almost 100% of the time, all year long. I'm not sure how that fits the definition of "foolhardy."

AP holders also get numerous other discounts and benefits throughout the resort, and its VERY easy to make an AP worthwhile with only a week long stay once a year.

MontyMon was saying that counting on ROOM discounts is foolhardy, they are NOT offered almost 100% of the time. I've seen large gaps in years where AP discounted rooms were not offered.

In the past that was true but over the last 2 years AP discounts have been coming out later and later, with more blackouts, and fewer rooms. Also the probability for an AP rate being the best deal is rapidly declining. I have several clients with AP that are booked under free dining or general public offers because the numbers work out better. If you can't at least break even on admission an AP is not always the best choice.
