The Lion King phase of AoA is already here, and is open to the public!

That's a link to the WDW website's page on the Lion King resort. Man, my favorite one is the Car's one, but this comes in close second. But I really like all of them. I like how WDI designed a hotel to stay at where you can choose from to live in the town from a top Disney animated movie.

I like most of what I am seeing from AoA and I look forward to staying there in Nov. We are staying in the Lion King suites since we couldn't get a discount at the Nemo suites. But from what I have seen so far, the LK suites are a distant third place for me so far. (And likely to place dead last once we get to see the Little Mermaid section in its full glory).

The rooms, for the most part are okay. You either like the bright colored (gawdy) AoA style or you don't. The LK rooms feel less like the Lion King than just a general jungle theme. Which actually suits me just fine as my wife and kids don't like The Lion King.

But the grounds are the weakest of the bunch. The figures are nice, but they aren't nearly as impressive as the Nemo and Cars areas. And other than a few figures, there's not much else.

And that "playground" is just embarssing. Not so much as a slide. Signs telling kids not to climb on anything. It may as well say "don't play" because there is nothing else to do there other than climb. And who's bright idea was it to build a playground based on the scariest part of the movie?

I feel like they ran out of money in the Lion King area.

I didn't know that, and personally I never planned to stay at The Lion King Suits. I really want to stay at the Cars Suits.

I have to admit I have difficulty committing to a room where there is a "convertible bed" for any member of my touring party. Call me old-fashioned. A week on an uncomfortable bed, no matter how great the vacation, can be very painful.

Totally understand this. For us, the convertible bed will be reserved for DS6 (in fact he's quite excited about the idea of sleeping on the table). :)

This is why we have stopped looking into these suites for our next trip. There will be four adults and one infant. None of us would happy on a pull out.

Was just at the Nemo suites July 4th week with the in-laws, sister in-law, wife, and 2 kids under 5, the converta-bed and the pull out couch were pretty good! The "table" has a real mattress on it.

I have to say I don't understand some people's reaction to the theming of the AoA. I keep seeing people complain (gawdy) about it and what I don't get is this - isn't obvious this resort was themed entirely for CHILDREN? I mean, it's mostly family suites for goodness sakes. I love it, I believe children are gonna absolutely love it and those young at heart will love it. When we stayed at the Pop my kids were amazed by the theming, you know another "garish" and "tacky" resort. WDW has so many beautiful and elegant other places to stay, why the criticism over a place that was built with children in mind? Not your cup of tea for your sophisticated tastes? Stay somewhere else.

That's very good to know. I think the real problem WDW has is that their site isn't very informative about room types. They show a few pics, and the descriptions are thin. That's why I come here for all of my information!

Haven't seen the rooms yet, but the outside is...I can't think of the word. The characters are good, but the colors of the buildings are kind of dreary. I thought they'd go with sunset kind of colors...red, orange, yellow. Instead they went with darker, dreary colors.

I don't even like Cars and I think the outside of that one looks better than the Lion King one.

I'll have to go walk it again now that I don't have to peek through to see stuff, lol.

That looks so awesome. Fans of the lion king should enjoy this greatly. Not as good as the Nemo suites IMO, but still great.

The Lion King area is seriously a step down from the others. Shame, because the Cars and Nemo wings look terrific.

I am glad to hear others agree. After looking at the Nemo and Cars areas, my expectations were pretty high. So when pictures came out for the Lion King section, I kept asking myself "Is that it?" I figured there must be parts I was missing that hadn't been documented online. But, no. The Lion King is just severely under-represented.

On the upside, I hear the lack of a pool (and the likely lack of kids using the playground) makes this section relatively quiet.

Actually, the Murphy bed is a regular mattress and was very comfortable. And the fold out couch mattress was very unique. Instead of having the mattress fold, the foot part that folds is a separate mattress. DS who is 20 slept on it and hates fold out couch beds. He was very comfortable. We also threw in a rolled up a mattress pad and put it on the fold out. We were there a week, and everyone was very comfy!
