thinking of returning to the world sometime during the last 2 weeks in Jan. Anything i should consider/worry about? tour groups, cheerleaders, etc.? Everything i'm researching shows it's a pretty slow time of year. Also thinking about staying at Pop Century to save some cash. Any suggestions would be helpful as we have never gone in Jan. before. Thanks!

We did see a few tour groups when we were there in January of last year, but we saw absolutely none of the bad behavior described in the horror stories. The groups were large but subdued. I probably wouldn't have even noticed them if not for the matching sweatshirts. I think all you'll have to worry about is packing for the sometimes erratic January weather. It could be 40°F or it could be 70°F.

We go the last week of January every year and there are always the Brazilian tour groups but we have never really had any issues with them. However, the last few years we have come across large groups of cheerleaders. They have been incredibly loud, like cheering/singing loudly on rides and during shows. I know that they usually stay at the values but I think Pop is your safest bet as I've been told they usually stay at the all-stars. I will say though, that any groups or crowds that you come across at the end of January are NOTHING compared to most other weeks of the year so we will always continue to visit then.

we usually go in sept. and LOVE it that time of year. Still hot, very little wait times for anything. Thinking about trying in Jan. 2012 but don't know if we would have to put up with the nightmare's some people mention about Jan. Thanks for the advice so far!

Possible cold weather as others have said, that's about it. We were there in the middle of Feb and it was in the high 30s one night. I also got the stomach flu, but it was still a decent trip.

I see you're from Chicago... I think you should ask yourself this question: where would I rather be in late January, Chicago or Florida?

I think it would be a great time to go, tour groups and all! Go, have fun and enjoy rubbing it in the faces of everyone you know the weeks leading up to your vacation!

I'm jealous of you myself! :)

Only other thing I can think of is some stuff might be down for the yearly refurbs(Splash Mountain, Water PArksetc.) and Big thunder mountain might be down the too.

forgot about splash's refurb every year. but didn't they just complete a major one recently?

just called to get some price quotes. Pretty affordable. didn't have passholder discounts yet for 2012. anyone know when those come out?

it's going to be tough NOT to pull the trigger on this one.

Brazilian tour groups, and people hacking up lungs everywhere without covering their mouths. The POP is a good choice. There will be some rides closed for refurbishment.

We go in either January or February every year and we've not ridden Splash now in three or four years, as it's always down. We left on the heels of a blizzard a couple years ago and got to sunny Florida. It was cold some days, but it didn't hamper our time there at all. There is cheer leader competition going on in January, but it we had no problems with that. There are tour groups both January and February, but had no issues with that, either. If you like cooler temps it's a great time to go.

We froze down there when we stayed NYE 2009 thru the 9th of 2010, very cold that year.

We've been though several times in february during presidents week and its been beautiful, hoping it is this year when we head down there again. But bring gloves and some sweatshirts as you never know

Indeed it was. We were there the 5th to 12th of January that year. Our last day there was the first day it was a decent temperature. I don't think the temperature ever got out of the high 30s on the 9th. That was the day of the half marathon and I remember watching weather reports that showed snow and sleet in the area that morning. It was actually warmer up in our hometown in northern New Jersey that week than it was at Disney World.
