Anything new coming to Innoventions?

One thing in WDW that is updated semi-regularly is Innoventions. On my last trip, the House of Innoventions and Velcro's What's Your Problem, were both closed.

Any news on what is replacing those attractions?

I for one would love to see Watson make his way into Innoventions. It is a perfect fit and because I am an IBMer!

Wouldn't it be fun to attend the Stark Expo and meet Iron Man in the flesh...er, metal? Well...

It's like Innoventions on steroids in the world of Tony Stark. 100% interactive. Very rich theming. Very promising.

and this last one should strike up some further discussion I'm sure

If Innoventions doesn't have 3DS yet, I hope it does. The other thing that could go to Innoventions is Sony's Next Gen Portable when it comes out.

Does Innoventions have a video game exhibit anymore? Last time i've actually looked for it, they had Toy Story on Sega Genesis playable (long ______ time ago lol). Never explored the place much to be honest.

I heard they are getting the latest Sega Genesis games!

I remembered Innnoventions having the Sega Genesis back in the 1990's with other Sega game consoles back in 1997 and I see you remembered Sega Genesis by the comment you made.

New Sega Genesis Games is something that shouldn't be something to kid about though despite there being no chance of seeing them at Innoventions or a Sega Genesis system at innoventions either for that matter anytime soon.

New Sega Genesis games are being released to this day in terms of being translated or being a completely new games. The translated games are not pirated since the translators actually got permission from the the companies that have the rights to the games.

The catch is there seems to be anywhere from 1,000 to 5,000 copies for new Sega Genesis games. Sega has nothing to do with the games themselves since they are new games for a system that hasn't been produced since around 1998 for Sega Genesis Model 3 was still being sold in stores.

Innoventions needs displays/activities that are cutting edge, and some exhibits that adults would be more interested in. I haven't even bothered walking through there in a long time.

For anyone from the Philadelphia area or anyone who's ever visited, it feels like a tech-centric version of the Franklin Institute. The kind of place you visit as a kid and think its so much fun, then you go back as an adult and think "really? this is it?"

Um.... If you haven't bothered walking through there in a long time, how would you know what's in there? There's been a lot of more cutting edge additions recently. Sum Of All Thrills is one of the best kept secrets on property right now, using the KUKA robotic arm technology from Ratheon...

Kinda reminds me of the return trip to Disney Quest a few years ago.

They do. Along the back wall near the Segway exhibit. They have a line of video game systems that I believe are all running games with Disney ties. Not so much the latest and greatest, but stuff that is linked to the mouse.

I'd dig that ... in like the worst kind of Iron Man fan-womanish way ever.

Actually I am kind of waiting for the other Marvel shoe to drop at Disney. Either commit to including the Marvel Universe in a real way or tell us that it will never happen.

All you will see of Marvel in WDW is going to be the merchandise for a very long time (25-50 years, at least). You might eventually see Marvel attractions and such in California or foreign Disney parks, but you won't see them in Orlando for quite a while, unless Disney feels like negotiating with Universal Orlando, likely for a nice chunk of change. The contract for park exclusivity east of the Mississippi was not in any way changed or affected by Marvel being purchased by Disney.

In 25 years I doubt that Marvel (or DC for that matter) will even still be around as we know it now. While Universal currently does have those exclusive rights it's no longer "in perpetuity" at it was before. But neither Marvel/Disney or Universal reviled when that end date is.

Maybe I should give it another chance then. My last walk through there (maybe my 3rd or 4th visit out of 8, ~7-10 years ago) I was very unimpressed and stopped going through there.

If you could point me in the direction of the renegotiated/changed contract (or articles stating the same), I would certainly like to see it. Everything that I have heard and seen on the matter indicates that the original was a "lifetime contract," and I remember reports about the buyout of Marvel noting that any contracts already made would be fully honored and unchanged, including the Universal contract.

Originally I read it in the Wall Street Journal sometime between Thanksgiving 2009 and late January 2010. (Their online search has turned up nothing useful to give me a better date.) The main body of the article was about Disney trying to sell off one of it's holdings ... I think it was Miramax but I'm only about 70% sure of that. But there was a lot of contract problems so the deal fell through and then they talked about the then recent acquisition of Marvel. I only remember the article because they did put out a lot more details on how long the contact negotiations had gone on and Disney paying some ridiculous amount of money to pay off Universal to have their standing contract "revised".

I'll keep looking because it really was far more fascinating than the "Hey! Disney bought Marvel" blurbs. Just about every article of that time that's out there seems to have nearly the same copy/past text from the AP feed ... great reporting there, everybody. :brick: I guess reporting really is a dying trade.

Interesting...I'll see if I can't dig up articles through LexisNexus and some other databases. I was going to say that the only way Disney would get park rights is by paying Universal a rather obscene amount, which I would have expected to be a major talking point of the acquisition.

EDIT: Also, if you don't have an online sub for the WSJ, their search function is going to be next to useless.
