Anyone not like the castle walls idea?

I like the idea. I feel like it is a good way to separate a medieval castle town and a forest sitting on its outskirts.

Just for fun discussion, is anyone else here not crazy about the castle walls that are apparently going to run through the middle of fantasyland? For some reason it bothers me, Im just not crazy about the idea of concrete walls running through the middle like a neighborhood subdivision. I realize fantasy forest is going to be like its own subdivision, but still gray stone walls snaking through turns me off on top of so much concrete. I guess we will see trees standing over them or maybe different things will be planted along them?

It would all depend on how high the walls would be. If they were fairly low I think it would look nice.:)

No, I don't like the idea. Also will have to see the the new additions it all seems too girly and nothing for little boys. I hope they are leaving the roller coaster for kids(I think the name is Barnstormers) my granddaughter loves it.

Barnstormer i staying but with a new theme and name and a good deal of rehab work that it desperately needs. And since when was Fantasyland ever meant for little boys?

From the things we've seen, I really cannot get a good vision of the Castle walls. Looking at the MK now, I've seen Mrs. Pott's Cupboard get a thatched roof. This is right next door to the Pooh attraction. I assume that the Pooh attraction will lose it's castle top and go with more of a country (100 Acre Wood) look. Will Mrs. Pott's Cupboard be changed since this is nowhere near the BATB area?

Will the Castle walls start from the far side of Snow White's Scary Adventures around the Caroussel and include Mickey's Philharmagic? What happens to Peter Pan's Flight and Small World. They look to have some sort of castle turrets and stone work. Possibl reworking to a Tudor theme to match the transition area to Liberty Square on one side and Pinocchio's Haus on the other end.

Why would Snow White be within the castle walls of Cinderella's Castle? Wouldn't it make sense to retheme Goofy's Barnstormer to a Dwarf Mine ride and build a Dwarfs Cottage next to it as a shop and M&G. Heck, even sell candied and carmel apples (as well as fresh just picked apples). Move Snow White's Adventures there and put in a new attraction by the castle.

I'd rather see an all new coaster as a Dwarf Mine ride

I know it's a Fantasy castle, but low walls? I'm pretty sure even in fantasies, castle walls are supposed to be high enough to keep people out or at least provide some privacy.

But again, I shall wait to see how it looks.

On the layout of the New Expansion I truly hate it. But, knowing Disney they will make it look good or use it as a M&G.

Agreed. I don't want to pass judgement so soon, but it was the first thing that drew my attention when I saw the concept art and my first thought was not positive. I do give them the benefit of the doubt and am interested to see how this turns out, but my fear is that it will become stroller parking and clandestine smoking central, like some of the spots at DHS.

I liken it to East and West Berlin. Maybe a new ride where you get shot at as you try to cross?

Then Reagan says, "Mr. Holmes... tear.. down... this... wall!"

i like the idea of the castle walls acting as like a courtyard. your leave that area and then go into the expansion with is the forest area or surrounding land. looking at the model/concept art im not too keen on the higgledy piggledy way theyve been layed out, a more curved look would be nicer. but hey.

what i have noticed in the model/art is that the walls are kind of free standing and not really joined onto any other existing part of the castle, also if you notice theres arches built into them. so its not one solid wall. i guess theyre there to differentiate the lands between the walls. forest & courtyard.

A castle courtyard was part of Dorothea Redmond's concept for the MK's Fantasyland. They are actually making FL more faithful to the concept paintings from the late 60s.

I knew it, I knew it, I knew it! It really does carry that old school Imagineering magical quality. Are there any books that reveal early concepts and the development process of WDW? I'm really interested in Walt's visions for WDW besides EPCOT and how those ideas may have evolved/devolved after his passing.

The concept I'm referring to isn't exactly what WDI is currently building. Her painting only shows two people in a smaller courtyard directly behind the castle. They're looking down, implying a multi-level FL. Of course, since nothing is painted except two buildings and a low wall, we'll never know exactly what her intentions were.

Anyway, it's interesting that the idea for a castle-wall separation existed for decades before WDI used it. I don't know whether or not they got the idea from Redmonds' single painting, but probably not.
