I saw "Pirates of Penzance" last night at the New York City Center -- great production by the NY Gilbert & Sullivan players, and I've got tickets for "Sunday in the Park With George" at Studio 54 at the end of the month (I love Sondheim!).

and I'm waiting to see the review of "Little Mermaid", I saw in in previews before the strike, and want to see what the critics think.

So Far...

The only show my DW and I have seen so far was Tarzan last May. We really enjoyed ourselves. We were in NYC in September and the lines for tickets were crazy so we just bounced around town instead. We got our Tarzan tickets through DVC in advance. It was a special offering to members. We would love to see more, but the downside is simply the ticket prices. We usually visit the city about twice a year, visit Little Italy and China Town for lunch, and then head uptown to follow my DW from one store to the next. I get tired just thinking about it...

We're headed back on March 29th for the day...maybe then...

let me share a "secret"...you get discount tickets at TKTS booths... they sell for day of performance only...the one in times Square, you have to plan on being in line before they open and plan on spending some time waiting, or oyu go late in the afternoon and walk right up to the window (but often find many shows are sold out)...or you go to the booth at the south Street Seaport at 11 in the morning and don't deal with outrageous lines.

I haven't had the chance to go all that often and two of the three plays I have seen performed were in Boston(Peter Pan many years ago and Phantom of the Opera a few years after that). But I also got to go to NYC for a weekend with my wife and kids a few years ago and we saw Beauty and the Beast onstage with Christy Carlson Romano as Belle. It was fantastic! I really want to see The Little Mermaid, but I don't think I'll have the chance. Not for a long time, at least.

My wife an I used to be members of the Broadway Series here in Cincinnati. Loved the shows and the 6 to 7 built in date nights that went along with it. Our favorites have been CATS, Les Miserables, Sunset Boulevard, Phantom, Peter Pan, Lion King, and the Producers.

We are seeing Wicked in a few weeks.

I am a huge theater fan. I love going to see Broadway shows. My favorite one so far has been Wicked. But I am hoping to see Lion King, Little Mermaid, and Mary Poppins soon.

I saw Les Mis 8 or 9 times over the run of the show. when it first opened, I'd be able to go for free -- a friend worked for producer cameron mackintosh, and he'd give us freebies on a tuesday night every now and then. my ex and I took his parents to see the show in 1990, and afterwards informed them that they were about to become grandparents for the first time. that child, and her sister, saw the show towards the end of its run.

my friend who worked for macintosh also got us tickets for Phantom, house seats, right under the chandelier (but we had to pay for those).

I think my all-time favorite, though, is Fiddler on the Roof. it was the very first Broadway show I ever saw, and I had to take my kids to see the alfred Molina revival a few years ago -- though I would have loved to have seen harvey fierstein in the role, he took over for molina at the end of the run...

I saw Harvey as Tevye and Andrea Martin as Golde, and the two of them were hilarious together.

If you want to purchase tickets ahead of time and still save some money, try www.broadwaybox.com for discount codes. It saved me a fortune when I needed tickets for my daughter's sweet 16 group.
