Well, After weeks of research and reading on the web about the Olympus Stylus 400 4 mega-pixel digital Camera... I am about 99.8% sure I am going to get one in the next week or two... with a 256mb xD Card.

I like the fact that its small enough to fit in my pocket (GREAT for wandering the parks!) And its just about waterproof (GREAT for Splash Mountain! lol). And... it can shoot quicktime video!

I have read all the reviews about it online... and I know its a point and shoot cam, and thats fine with me... I even went to Best Buy to play with it for awhile to check it out and you can tinker with a few of the settings and it has quite a few options.

I was just wondering if anyone out there has/had a Digital Stylus, and what you thought about it.

I had a 1 mp stylus and loved it. it took good pics and and like you said it's small enough to put in your pocket and not worry about carrting it around

I was a long time Nikon user until I researched digital cameras 2 years ago. I bought an Olympus D-510 (a precursor to the Stylus line) and loved it! Got the best pictures at WDW I've ever taken. I just "traded up" to an Olympus C-5050 (5 Megapixel) - their most advanced non-pro model, and can't wait to try it out on our trip this Christmas:D

NICE!! The Olympus C-5050 is a GREAT cam.... but for me... I gotta admit, its a bit bulky... I am looking to get away from bulky  Tallk about bulky....I Have an Older Sony Digital Mavica... and that gets to be a pain lugging around the parks...

So I am looking to go pocket size now. :)

donaldduck1967,

How did you like your stylus? What kinda zoom did ya have on it? Ever have any problems with the memory cards?

Bulky? Not at all, and with its magnesium frame it is very lightweight. Hey, I am use to hauling around a Nikon N-2020 with a 35 -100mm lens! And for years before that an older Nikon with a seperate motor drive! That was bulky:lol: Talk about a brick around your neck! No, the C-5050 is just about right: I'll take not being able to put it in a pocket in exchange for the flexibilty the f1.8 lens provides. That was a problem with the D-510 I had - it needed to use the flash too often, and a lot of low light indoor shots went begging.

I'm but it as a simple, runaround camera. Just make sure teh amount of lag time between pushing the button and it snapping the shot is acceptable to you. I know the final 3 days of my trip, i was just shooting with pocket cameras cuz my back couldt take lugging around everything much more.

Okay, f 3.1-5.2, thats good. Semmes like a good all around lil camera. Only thing i dont like is that its xD memory as opposed to CompactFlash. I like the ability to toss the Card right in the card slot (w/ adapter) and download right away.

I'd buy it ..... if youre willing to price around, at least look at bhphotovideo.com to see if tehyre cheaper then best buy (shudders)....

Thanks Dave,

Yeah... I aint paying anything near retail  ... I did some sniffing around the past few weeks, and I got a great price elsewhere :lookaroun.

So you did not like the xD cards just because of speed (just asking)? I am just looking to hook the cam up via USB to the laptop and download the pics... Does it take long to do it that way?

Also in some of reviews I have read... they say there is some very, very minor shutter lag... but I think I can live with it. :)

Thanks everyone... keep the info coming :)

I dont think there's a difference in connection speed - I dont know, i've always just tossed it in the laptop, i havent a foggy clue how to hook either camera up to the computer.

I just like compact flash, mainly cuz i can download pics off 1 card while still shooting on another, like on the sidelines of the Barca v ManU game. Of course, you've got a slightly different intended use, so....

That and becareful cuz i think xD are smaller, and i lost a CF card once. Fell out my pocket...

Personal Preference, Jer.. thats all.... :D

Yeah!! The xD's are soooo tiny... some have had said its about the size of a postage stamp... but I think its a wee bit smaller than that  Yeah....so I have to be very careful if I have to do a card swap. :)

Thanks again :)

Please post what you think after you get it. I have the Canon S400 and love it. It is about the size of a pack of smokes. Metal body which is very durable. 4 MP with a 3x optical zoom. I love it very much, it takes great pictures. I plan on buying a Canon 10D before the year is out but wanted an everyday take everywhere camera. The S400 was perfect for me. It is so small I can take it every day with me. I don't have to think twice.

The Olympus Stylus Digital Camera is a very good except that it takes a propriety battery. If you can live with that (I couldn't) then go for it!

The s400 is a nice cam... still... I am not a big Canon person I suppose... I guess it’s just a brand loyalty thing... and I have had BAD experiences with Canon equipment, & their service reps & tech people in the past when I used to work in the graphic arts industry. :zipit:

Since then.. I avoid anything Canon like the plague.

They have a pretty good rating at Reseller Ratings. The normal thing with these types of dicount sellers is that they will you up and push pretty hard to buy some overpriced accessories for the camera. Normally, if you just politely decline they will go ahead and ship you the camera.

Good luck.

I've own one of their precursor cameras.. the D460Z since 2001 and it is a nice camera. It takes great pics! My 35mm camera is also an Olympus. They make quality! I took this picture with my Olympus digital (which is a 1.3MP, this has been resized):
