I sent one to my boss one trip. I got mine at the POTC gift shop and they had a sharpie right behind the counter for me to use. Since I was sending it to my boss, I wrote, "NOT COMING BACK". His wife called him while he was at work all freaked out because she thought this weird misshapen thing on their porch was a bomb. :D
LOL..Don't move, that guys wired to a coconut.

All these replies and nobody's ever sent one of the coconut postcards??? Sheesh! I've actually done this twice. Both times it was from the Poly. In May '08 we mailed one home to our boys. The hubby & I were on a Mom-n-Dad trip. We sent them postcards every day. At the time we were living in an apartment still. When the postal worker puts the mail in the boxes at the apartments they open a big access door that opens all the box ends. Well, the coconut juuuust fit in there. But, when the resident opens the little box door there's a small lip to the box and the coconut didn't clear it. So, the coconut was actually stuck in there. It was funny. We had to leave a note for the postal worker to remove the coconut and give it to the folks in the apartment's office the way they deliver a package. We kept it sitting out for a while but eventually it started to smell really awful so we threw it away. The 2nd coconut postcard was in May '09 when I was at WDW with my brother & his girls without my family. My brother & I thought it'd be fun to send a coconut to our folks....you know "from a couple nuts to another couple of nuts". :D Yes, we borrowed a Sharpie marker to address it. I can't remember if we handed it off to the CMs at the register to ship or if we had to take it to the front desk at the Poly to ship. Seems like it was the register. Anywhoo, this has been around for a while. It's fun! :p

Seriously? With the smart alecks in this bunch no one has even mentioned the transport of these coconuts??? I guess I will. They are dispatched via swallow...(anyone?, anyone? )

Not a European Swallow, surely. Maybe an African Swallow.

ETA: For those who missed the reference:

I grew up in Hawaii and we did this several times - we'd paint a picture on one side and write the address on another, then take it to the post office where they'd figure out how to make the stamps stick.

You can also send a 2-liter bottle through the mail. Wash it out well and let it dry. Take off the label and cut a three-sided "door" in the side. Fill the bottle with goodies and some shredded paper or Easter grass type stuff, then use a piece of paper to tape over the door and write the address on. It's a really fun thing to send or receive!

So long as it's not dangerous (flammable, hazardous, etc.) you can mail just about anything. So long as you put the right postage on it, no real issue. Some items wind up with a higher postage because of weird shape/size which requires hand canceling (i.e. non-machinable) but really, the sky's the limit. I've gotten mail inside large pill bottles, repurposed granola bar boxes, film canisters - you name it!

I have sent a few to family and friends in the Chicagoland area. It's about 20 bucks to send (if memory recalls) plus the price of the coconut (a little under 40 for the entire package). Everyone I have sent them too have loved them, and all have them displayed somewhere in their home. Likewise, all still, to this day, talk about how a coconut showed up in their postbox. It is a fun souvenir for those people you just don't know what to buy. I sent mine from POTC, but the Boutiki store in the Poly sells them as well. Oh, and a CM at POTC told me that if I didn't know what to write or have an address, that the coconut could be dropped off on Main Street (the baggage place--not a mailbox), or at any hotel front desk for delivery. So, if you don't want to write it on the spot, you don't have to. They are super fun gifts! I highly recommend mailing them out.

yes, my sister sent me one from Caribbean Beach over February break. It was a really cute idea, I do have to say though I live on long Island and I didn't get the coconut until she was already home. So it took over a week for it to get to NY from Florida. She told me she mailed it the 1st day they were there on Saturday and I didn't get it until 2 mondays later.

We need time for things to happen.
Nice. I might have to send one of these off to someone in September.
Hmmmm now who is worthy of such a fine coconut?
Maybe myself!!??

There ya go! 20 bucks! Even better.

(I bought mine years ago--and was going off memory when I stated a price. Sorry, Laura, if I offended you).

No worries! I should have added a :) to diminish the dryness of my sentence.
