Anyone ever fly to Orlando for a 1 day crazy adventure?

I saw an insane deal on flights awhile ago for like 44 bucks each way so me and a few friends grabbed tickets to fly to Orlando for the day.. its about a 2 hour flight so with a 5:30am flight there we could be at the park before it opens and get a pretty full day in before having to catch a 10:30pm flight back.

Sure we are gonna crash on the way back but it has the potential to be a memorable adventure.. and for 44 dollar flights this isn't meant to be an an actual vacation anyway.

I was curious if anyone here ever did something like this and how it went?

Almost.

Back in April, I went to a conference in Orlando. The conference started early on a Tuesday and ran through Friday. So I had to fly in on Monday.

I woke around 3. Got to the airport around 4:30. Yay TSA! Took a 6 am flight from DC, landed in Orlando shortly after 8, checked in to my hotel (Rosen Shingle Creek) about 9ish, got a cab to the Contemporary and was walking down Main Street in MK solo around 10 am. I did a ton of rides, had great Fastpasses and even had an ADR at Tony's Town Square. Sometime around 9:30 pm I was finally exhausted, so I went back to the Contemporary and caught a cab back to the hotel and crashed.

Next time I have a conference in Orlando, I'm totally flying in early for another MK solo day.

On a related too much time in an airplane note, I did a wacky trip to Utah once for work. I think I landed in Salt Lake at 8 or 9 pm on a Wednesday and was on a flight home by 11 am on Friday. That was tiring, but the flights were much longer and there wasn't any Mouse around to make me smile.

I would definitely do this if Spirit would offer an early flight outbound and a late flight back. Because they do come up with some 34 and 44 dollar seats occasionally, but under the current flight schedule on the HOU to MCO lane I wouldn't actually get a "full" day at WDW...I've thought about fly in Tuesday and fly back Wednesday option...My luck I would book it and be inundated with work that particular day and spend my entire time using wifi in a lobby.

I've done a Fri-Sun before, first flight in Fri, last out Sun. Not the same though. But a single day trip isn't worth it for me unless I'd be in the area for something else. By the time I dealt with flights and travel, I'd only have a few hours in park.

I dont think a one day excursion would be worth it for me, even with it being Disney. Too much travel, dealing with airport security, etc. for too little fun time. Friends of ours take a quick Fri - Sun trip several times during the year, they rush to do as much as they can, and head home. I'd rather have the time to really enjoy the trip. One day and I'd feel I cheated myself out of a decent trip.

I think it would be a blast. The cheap flight is one thing, however, do you have an AP or ticket to use? My concern would be doing it and still having to buy the one day ticket. If you have an AP then it's really easy to go to a couple of places to enjoy the day such as MK and EPCOT then make it back out to go home. Plus since you don't have carry on luggage it should be pretty decent to get through and deal with the airports.

I've never done a flight in for a one day whirl wind disney day, but we did surprise the kids once on our way back from a beach vacation with 1 day in the parks before driving home.

I'd love to sneak my husband away for a day trip, I think it'd be a blast. I cant wait to hear all about your experience.

Going down for a day, especially if flying, sounds like a waste of time IMO. You don't get to really enjoy anything knowing you may be late for the flight home.

They do this every year for small children... I believe its called dream flight or something. They fly down & back in the same day just to visit MK. So if a bunch of small children can do it, so can you! Have fun!

We did it from Chicago once and last minute. Had an hour to pack and get to airport. We did stay overnight though. It was one of the more memorable World trips for us and we go several times a year. We still talk about it to this day, how extreme it was. I think that in itself makes it so much fun, looking at each other saying, can you believe we are here!

Drove the family down from Atlanta area about 10 years ago for a 1 day trip. We checked in late Friday night, to a offsite hotel, got up hit AK, then MK that night. Got up Sunday went home, it was great.

Did this last year. We really wanted to check out the F+W festival, and JetBlue was offering $44 flights on Halloween so we went for it. Flew out at 5 AM and flew back at 11 PM. Uber from the airport straight to EPCOT and had a great day!
