Anyone else want a "CASH ONLY" lane at Quick Service?

I just wrote a very nice letter to WDW Guest Communications BEGGING they please add a cash-only lane at busy times in the theme park quick service eateries. Anyone else agree?

I spent so much time on my trip in the past week waiting for people to get it together on the dining plan...literally taking 2-3 minutes to make their order (after the cashier says, "What can I get for you?") trying to decide if they want 2 brownies and 2 pies or 3 pies and 1 brownie...credits for this, credits for that.

I was at Restaurauntosaurs at opening the other day, and was the 7th person in line, and the first to not use the dining plan. The girl at the counter looked so relieved, LOL. I made my order, paid, and had my change within 12-15 seconds.

This isn't a rant about the dining plan...it's great. But when not on it, I felt like I was waiting a lot longer than necessary for people to get their acts together and be able to order, and also saw a lot of computer issues holding things up, again because of the dining plan.

I'm sure some will disagree for whatever reason, but man I felt like the only person paying for food with cash so many times last week and had to really stop myself from getting irritated at those people who weren't (it was more the people that would wait in line for 10 minutes and not look at the menu until the cashier asked them what they wanted that really got me, LOL). I just smiled and patiently waited, but I was silently writing this post in my head as I was LOL.

You are not alone.

It has taken me 15 minutes to get ice cream before when I was the third person in line. The 2 in front of me were on the plan, and purchasing for multiple people, it was like they were trying to solve some kind of word problem on the SAT or something.

I realize 2 lines are impractical at ice cream stands, but still ....

I with ya'.

If I was from FL or the area and would make trips to WDW without using the DP I would DEFINITELY want a cash only line. We only deal in cash or debit cards - but most of the time in cash - so it would be perfect for us. With as many people that use the dining plan, this would be a nicereprieve for everyone else.

Realistically, how many guests would get into a cash only line and still use DP? I don't know if it's a question of people on vacation not paying attention or I just get behind the dumbest people all the time, but whatever line I'm in the folks in front seem to delay... :brick:

I think they should just have a line for DDP...I have no clue how DDP works, but it seems like people can make it complicated so they should have one or two lines for them and CM's who know perfectly well how to handle them

Edit: Monty, I have bad luck when picking lines too :hammer:

Thankfully a lot of people are ignorant of the "you can walk up to both sides of a cashier" thing, and although I got some dirty looks (even when a CM greeter was yelling, "BOTH SIDES ARE OPEN") it helped mitigate those people who take as long to order a fast food meal as it takes me to buy a car, LOL.

Thanks for the replies guys. I like hakuna's idea as well...three items or less sounds faboulous to me. :)

True...even I start wondering "wait a minute, is that other side open?" but I figure it out before others do

And I'm in the party that orders for 5 people.....so yeah :lookaroun but we charge to the room or pay with credit card. Despite buying so much food and drinks, we never take long

Well, actually, there is nothing wrong with ordering for five people. That's actually better than having all five of you stand in line, LOL.

The problem is when people order for 5 people, have no idea what they want when they get up to the counter, are yelling back and forth or giving hand signals, or sitting there talking themselves through it like they are answering a question on Millionaire ("Well, James had a cheeseburger last night, maybe we should get him a chicken sandwich instead?").

The problem with the dining plan part of it is that although it seems criminally simple to me, some people, as someone said above, make it out to be as complicated as an SAT word-problem. Combo meal. Drink. Dessert. Easy, LOL.

The more I think about it, the more I like hakuna's idea. It's really not so much the dining plan vs. cash that is the problem, but people ordering for a crew and not knowing what they want before they get up there. A "3 item limit" line would eliminate both, and very few people are solo on the dining plan (more than one person using the plan would go above 3 items) so it would kill two birds with one stone. ;)

 I never get in line until I know what everyone wants. I don't like standing there not knowing what to get because on top of ordering for 5 people, I don't want to be more confused

I was walked a way from a line.

I was third in line and they spend at least 15 minutes debating on what everybody is getting.

It has nothing to do with Cash Credit or Dining Plan.

It has everything to do with people that wait to go up to the cash before deciding on what they want.

People will stand in whichever line appears to be the shortest OR moving the quickest - regardless of whether its cash only, DP only or 5 items or less. The trouble is, if there were such a facility the CM would still have to serve the next guest whether they were in the wrong line or not, making a mockery of the system.

I don't think there is an easy solution

The DDP people definitely slow down the lines asking questions - I know, because I've been one of them. Part of the problem is that CMs don't interpret or enforce the plan's rules consistently. So even those of us with a lot of DDP experience still have to ask questions.

No easy solution, but I don't know that it wouldn't help. They force you to go get in another line at Cosmic Ray's if you want pizza from the burger window. A hanging sign saying "3 items or LESS" (increasingly the solution I think would work the best), off to the side (it's own line) and another sign as you enter that part of the queue would work wonders.

Would it work for every idiot out there? No, but it sure would help. Most people want to follow the rules if they are made clear. It's just like the grocery store "x items or less" lines. It works 90% of the time, and it's better than everyone waiting in the big lines. And people police this themselves...LOL I was next to someone in the 10 items or less line at my local store not long ago, and this jerk with like 25 things was in front of me. So when I put my stuff on the counter, I counted each item out loud as I placed it down - I had 9. The woman sniffed at me for a second, then saw all the dirty looks EVERYONE was giving her - I think she got the point, LOL.
