What? Lord of the Rings is coming to Amazon Prime???? It would be a big draw for us to renew our AP subscription. We love LOTR. Do you know when it is coming to AP?
From what I've gathered and read, it is supposedly based on the Similarian (an incomplete work based on Sauron's origins and rise to power) with plenty of creative liberties, but approved by the Tolkein estate.

I'd really like to see Disney make some high-concept fantasy that is aimed more toward later teens and adults.

I have a VPN that allows me to watch both the UK and US Disney+. THE US Disney+ is the basic 5 no Hulu or ESPN, but, as time goes on there is less and less difference between the main 5 on the UK and US channels, I was able to watch all The Mandalorian S1 on the US platform before it streamed in full in the UK, but, most of the big premieres are streamed around the same time now, but, it's still nice to access both.
However, we have Star on the UK platform and that is a definite plus, it's the grown up part of Disney+ and there is a lot of good stuff on there that I want to catch up on, so I'll be keeping Disney+. I have had Britbox and Amazon Prime, but, after trial periods I decided not to keep them. Britbox wasn't bad, but, Amazon Prime doesn't do a lot for me. As for Hulu, Apple TV, Netflix etc, not for me. All very samey. I do have Pluto TV, the free streaming service owned by CBS and Viacom and I watch a lot on there despite the adverts. Last night I binge watched the original The Odd Couple from 1973 and then went on to the Carol Burnett Show, which never aired in the UK, with shows like those who needs streaming services.

Disney+ is the only streamer I'll do an annual subscription for as it's the only one consistently putting out shows I consider "must see." The others I rotate usually timed off a single project and play catch up on lesser shows others during that time.
