Anyone Else Not A Fan Of Dance Parties?

I get enough 'dance parties' at school. They always use the guise of having a 'dance' to raise money for something. I teach in a school that is 2nd & 3rd grade only.

I also teach (I teach 7th and 8th) and am in charge of our dances so I guess that's one of the reasons I don't mind the parties. I like to have a good time at the parks. And like I mentioned in my previous reply, we go so many times that I don't care about skipping Space Mountain if the lines are too long and hang out dancing to mainstream pop songs.

Do I wish the song selections were better? Duh but well we have a lot of rhythmically challenged people at those parties that thrive on the line dancing haha. I'd love to have more Latin music ;)

Maybe I'm gradually becoming an old gripe. Last time I was in Tomorrowland, they had that Stitch dance party taking place. To me, it sorta killed the atmosphere. You could even hear it while riding TTA. Like I said, maybe I'm too much of a Disney purist & need to lighten up a little. But do these dance parties ruin the ambience for any of you? After reading about the Spring Break dance party taking place on Streets of America at DHS this week, the first thought that went through my mind was: "Avoid at all costs."

What are your thoughts? Are these dance parties just good fun, or atmosphere-killers in the parks?

The dance parties ruin the ambiance for me about as much as all the people speaking English in the China pavilion ruin the ambiance, which is to say, not at all. Now, if you put the dance party in a location that blocks access to something, it annoys me, but otherwise...what's bad about seeing people dance and hearing music?

There's absolutely nothing wrong with music and dancing. I love going to parties and dancing and things like that. The problem is the execution. It's seriously cheap. Let's get a DJ, play wack music, add in some characters and call it a dance party. What is that? The dance party at DCA not only sucks but it takes up valuable space that can be used for something else. Thank God the dance party isn't going on right now.

Now, Mad T Party and ElecTRONica are the same concept as the dance parties, almost, and they're executed wonderfully. Live bands, good music, wacky and interesting costumed people, food and drinks and people who seem like they're actually having fun.

If you were going to a party, would you want an experience like this?

Or one like these? Be honest.

i didn't love it. My daughter thought it was awesome.

That was EXACTLY my experience.

I, personally, don't have a strong opinion on it either way. I wouldn't miss them if they were gone. But, knowing how my kid loves them, means that I can accept their existence, and even enjoy the show (through her eyes).

I was highly annoyed one evening when they had one of these parties going and you could clearly hear it inside the CoP.

So I guess I'm in the minority here but we were in Tomorrowland late one night and saw Club 626 and got so excited when we saw Stitch dancing that we had to get over there when we got off TTA! It was just kind of one of those "kid" moments you get sometimes when you have to just cut loose and play. Plus we all love Stitch!

Survey of seven in my house ages 3, 10, 14, 16, 19, 43, and 47.....all hate them. I think the 3 year old was just piling on but she actually said "hate them".

Cheap rubbish that they call entertainment.
Well, in this case your snide sarcastic side commentary seems to perfectly coincide with careful analytical review. :)

These dance parties don't add a festive mood for me. Atmosphere killers, more often than not. Sweaty tourists dancing to old songs that were not cool twenty years ago to begin with. Daddies trying dance moves their bodies haven't been able to pull off since 1996. Kids above the age of eleven left completely embarrassed, horrified as they suddenly realise they will be bullied at school for having gone to Disney.

Well, since you've asked me to be honest, I shall now comletely change my answer.

Continuing to be honest, I would prefer the Mad T Party to the WDW-style dance party, and prefer elecTRONica to both of them. But the question wasn't whether we would prefer the Mad T Party or ElecTRONica to the generic dance parties at WDW. The question was whether we believe that the WDW dance parties are ambiance killers, to which I honestly answered "No".

I would, however, piont out that the target market for elecTRONica and Mad T is adults...specifically those who might be cajoled into buying fairly expensive drinks. The target for the WDW parties seems to be drastically different -- kids. Indeed, kids that will probably not purchase anything because of the dance party.

I know that wasn't the question, but you asked, quote on quote, what's bad about seeing people dance and hearing music. I answered you and said music and dancing aren't the problem, but the execution was and I gave you examples in Mad T Party and ElecTRONica. I wasn't expecting you to change your opinion, but to understand why the rest of us feel the way we do.

I think they're great fun for little ones during MVMCP or MNSSHP.

I'm on the fence about the one in Tomorrowland on a regular basis. Not a fan, really.

I like it when they do it at DTD. Seems appropriate and fun there.
I agree to this. I didn't even know they started this with Tomorrowland. It probably won't bother me but I can see why it can bother others. But yeah. You all sound like a bunch of old farts XD

I hate them, I avoid them, I don't see them as fitting in with the atmosphere of the area, I look at them in the same way I look at Brazilian tour groups... as soon as I spot them I turn around and run as fast as I can in the opposite direction.:D
