Anyone else have another vacation obsession and feel guilty about it.

I actually have two vacation destinations that I feel equally obsessed about. The first one is Disney (obviously), and the other is cruising vacations. Ironically enough, I've never been on a disney cruise. But I go to cruise message boards. I know all the lingo and shorthand. I feel like I'm an insider just like I am about Disney. Knowing all the ins and outs, all of the secrets and tricks, etc.

However, I find myself feeling guilty and like I'm cheating on whichever vacation I'm on. If I'm at Disney World, I feel like there is a Princess cruise ship somewhere (or any other line, been on most of them, not really partial to any one over another) that if it found out, would be mad that I'm there.

And if I'm on a cruise, I feel like I'm betraying Mickey.

Maybe the solution would be to do the Disney land and sea thing, but the disney cruise is just so freaking expensive.

Anyway, just wanted to share my thoughts.

All I do is think “darn we have gone to Disney World again,” whenever DW drags me someplace “different.”
I’m reminded of the old Henny Youngman line “you want to go someplace different try the kitchen."

Much depends on WHEN you go, and WHEN you price the trip.

Since you are a cruise fan, you should have a feel for cruise "seasons".

However, unlike many other cruise lines, Disney's pricing is at its lowest when the pricing is first released - as the ship fills, the prices go up and up and up - and rarely come back down.

So if you want to do a Disney cruise, wait for 2012 pricing to come out, probably this fall, and book for the lowest priced season.

Just curious....why have you never been on a Disney Cruise, since you are so passionate about both Disney and cruising?

We have our first Disney cruise coming up and I am so excited!! We've been on several other cruise lines, but this will be the first time with DCL, and the first time our kids have cruised.

edit: I just noticed you mentioned the price as the reason you have not gone yet. But you should really look into it! As a previous poster said, there are ways to get the price down quite a bit, depending on when you sail and when you book your trip.

The main reason we haven't done a disney cruise is the price, it is so much more than the other lines. And I should have mentioned that my wife is a teacher, so we can only go on vacation in the summer or worse, during christmas or spring break, when the prices are even more than outrageous.

I'd love to be able to cruise in early january or october when the prices are so low, but her job doesn't allow it.

And I guess we were kind of saving the disney cruise for when we have kids, which we now have twin 1 year old girls, so we'll be thinking about it soon, not quite yet because they are a bit too young, but eventually.

No casino on DCL; I'm guessing the other cruise lines can offset some of the cost with this alternate money maker. We've been on 5 Disney Cruises and wouldn't have it any other way (but some want the casino side of cruising, which of course is there decision).

I've also heard the theory that with more families onboard (and no casino) that there are far less alcohol sales on DCL.

Yes I do. The wife and I are avid campers and love to go Camping and Fly Fishing in the Catskills, and New Hampshire, We are planning a week long camping trip next year in Maine and then off to vegas for the week after. We visit WDW this September and plan to go back to WDW in 2012 and will be bringing our Grandson who will be 5 years old and this will be his very first Disney Trip.

My daughter and I are taking the train and heading to Michigan next month for a wedding. It's going to be a great adventure!! I would so rather be going to Disney, but we are excited about seeing family and friends we haven't seen in almost 2 yrs. My husband is not going because he can't get away from work. Our next trip to Disney won't be until 2013. But if we ever win the lottery it will be before then. And hopefully in 7 yrs the hubby and I will be taking a wonderful trip to Ireland. That is my wish trip. The kid will be in college and it will be around our 30th anniversary. Can't wait for that. But our first love is going to Walt Disney World.

It sounds to me like you're not really able to fully enjoy either one if you're worrying about why you're not doing the other. That being the case, how can you really say you truly "love" either one of them? If you're feeling guilty for not being at Disney, for example, then it seems as though you view a visit to Disney as more of an obligation as opposed to a genuine desire to be there.

Not really. When we go other places we find ourselves wishing we were at Disney. We enjoy San Antonio and I always love a run to Cleveland, Georgia to do some cabbaging at Babyland General Hospital.

To put it into perspective, I don't think my beloved Cabbage Patch collection even beats out my adoration/obsession for Disney. In fact, the first time we took our boys to WDW it was paid for almost entirely by my selling my entire collection. Ooooh...now that I think about it, if I sold the 38 I have now I could prob'ly fund at least 2 big trips. Hhhmmmm....

I never feel guilty about going to Las Vegas! I need my "Adult" party time and Orlando/WDW just doesn't cut it. So Never is there a negative for my other obsession!

We always look forward to going on our yearly trip to Gatlinburg, but nothing compares to Disney to me. This summer we are going to spend a month in Baltimore & Washington DC, and while I am looking forward to it, it's just not going to be the same. If I had a choice, and believe me I don't, we would be at Disney.

We go to Memphis, TN every August for l0 days as well as the Outer Banks of NC for a week in July. We consider our WDW trip our winter get-a-way. We love all 3 'spots' equally.

The only time I have ever felt "guilt" was when we took a day trip to Universal during our WDW vacation. I actually felt sick about leaving Disney property (starting with the Mears transportation we used to get there).

I too love cruising and have never felt guilty, usually because we will spend one week on a cruise and one week at WDW. Went to Vegas a couple years ago and spent most of the time thinking I would have had a better time at WDW. Oh well....live and learn!
